Hydrocarbons, fossil fuels, petrochemicals, emit, exhaust gases, carbon dioxide CO2,
atmosphere, environment, absorb, emissions, absorption, carbon sequestration,
completely safe, nuclear power stations.
1. We use the word environment for everything in the natural word-plants, animals, air,
etc.
2. The environment can emit some of the CO2 emissions.
3. To build more nuclear power station is a method to reduce absorption of carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere.
4. Mining companies and oil gas companies take fossil fuels such as coal, oil, gas, out of
the ground.
5. Nuclear power stations don´t produce CO2, but some people think they are not
completely safe
6. Coal, oil and gas are called hydrocarbons because they are made from plants and
animals that lived millions of years ago.
7. Scientist are working on projects of carbon sequestration by pumping CO2 into the
ground.
8. Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and then release it again if they are
burned.
9. Fossil fuels are burned to produce energy for factories, cars and power stations.
