T-BOSIET/

(Tropical) and Basic Offshore Safety
Induction and Emergency Training
& (Tropical) Further Offshore
Emergency Training

Scope:
The survival of an offshore worker can depend on their
knowledge of what to do in an emergency and how to
prevent an emergency from occurring.
This course trains the worker to prevent emergencies and
to respond to emergency situations, which may occur when
working on an offshore installation. This course is designed
for persons working on offshore installations in tropical
regions. The course covers all the mandatory requirements
for the issue of certificates specified in the OPITO common
induction standards. The course also covers all the
mandatory requirements for the issue of certificates for
offshore safety training in Indonesia.

General Course Objectives:

The objectives of the T-BOSIET / BOSIET are that delegates
will be able to:
• Identify the generic hazards that are specific to offshore
oil and gas installations, potential risks associated with
those hazards, and how controls are put in place to
eliminate or reduce risks.
• Identify key offshore related safety regulations and
explain the basic safety management concepts
• Demonstrate that they can use the safety equipment,
and follow procedures in preparing for, and during
helicopter emergencies with particular focus on
escaping from a helicopter following ditching
• Demonstrate sea survival and first aid techniques
• Demonstrate that they can effectively use basic fire
fighting equipment, and practise self-rescue techniques
in low visibility situations, to include smoke filled areas.

T-HUET: Emergency Breathing Systems (EBS)

What is the EBS?

The EBS is designed to increase survival time during a
helicopter emergency, prior to escape from a submerged
cabin. The Air Pocket came into service in 1996, and is well
proven. It is in service with major oil companies worldwide.
Training in the use of EBS is required for working offshore
in Malaysia, Australia, Brunei and many other countries
around the world.
The EBS comes in two types, the Airpocket Plus (APP)
and the LAP-Jacket. The LAP-Jacket consists of the APP
integrated in an aviation lifejacket. Samson Tiara has
both types of available for training. The EBS has been
developed to address the “Cold Shock” symptom, an
involuntary response to immersion in cold water, which
results in gasping for air, and to support the user during the
underwater escape from a helicopter which has ditched in
the sea. The re-breathers are simple to use, but practical
skill training is required. The breathing bag is generously
over-sized to contain the air charge plus any breath from
breath-hold, without producing over-pressure.
