Language and Literature
Eng 1 - Study and Thinking Skills
This course aims primarily to develop the student's communicative and thinking skills
for academic study. (3 units)

Eng 2 - Writing Across Discipline with Research


This course is principally intended to develop the composition skills of students in English
language. Facilitate the students in discovering their strengths and weaknesses in oral and
written communication and provide training for the enhancement of their basic skills and
introduction to Research writing. English 1. (3 units)

Eng 3 - Speech and Oral Communication


Advanced skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Pre-requisite: English 3 (3
units)

Eng 4 - Technical Writing


Emphasis in this course is on improving the communication skills of students seeking a
career in business, health, technical or scientific fields. Pre-requisite: English 3 (3 units)

Fil 1 - Sining ng Pakikipagtalastasan


Lilinangin sa kursong ito ang apat na kasanayang pangwika: pagbasa, pagsulat, pakikinig
at pagsasalita. Ang mga gawain sa loob at labas man ng klasrum ay tutuon sa mga paraan
ng pagpapahayag, paglalahad, paglalarawan, pagsasalaysay at pangangatwiran. (3 units)

Fil 2N - Panitikang Pilipino


Pag-aaralan ang mga katutubo at naangking anyo ng panitikang Pilipino sa loob ng iba’t
ibang panahon sa kasaysayan ng kultura ng Pilipinas. Matutuhan ang mga tradisyong
bumubuhay sa panitikan ng mga Pilipino at mapahalagahan ang mga ito sa pamamagitan
ng pagpapahalaga sa lalong makabuluhang kathang kumakatawan sa mga panahon sa
kasaysayang ng panitikan. (3 units)

Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Informatics


Math 2N - College Algebra with Trigonometry
This course deals with Linear equations; algebraic and graphical solutions of the
quadratic equations; exponents and radicals; complex numbers, binomial expansion;
determinants; progressions; theory of equations with basic concepts of
trigonometry. (3 units)

Math 4 –Health Statistics
An introductory course in statistical methods used in applied research on health.
Emphasis on principles of statistical reasoning, underlying assumptions, and careful
interpretation of results. (3 units)
NatSci 1 – General Biology/ Biological Science
This course introduces the principles and concepts of biology. Emphasis is
on basic biological chemistry, cell structure and function, metabolism and
energy transformation, genetics, evolution, classification, and other related topics.
(4 units)
NatSci 2 - Anatomy and Physiology
Focuses on structure, functions and adaptations of the human body, with emphasis
on physiological regulations, adaptive mechanisms (5 units) 3 units lecture, 2 units

NatSci5 - Microbiology and Parasitology
Deals with the physiological and pathogenic properties of bacteria, fungi and
viruses as an introduction to disease causation.Deals with the component of
immune system and host-parasite interaction (4 units) 3 units lecture and 1 unit lab.

PhySci1 – General Chemistry with Laboratory
This course contains all of the theory for both inorganic & organic chemistry that a
student will need to advance to third level chemistry. (5 units) 3 units lecture, 2

NatSci 4 –Biochemistry
It deals with the study of chemical composition of living cells This embraces the
study of the chemistry of carbohydrates, lipids and protein, nucleic acids and
enzymes and their metabolism when taken as food by man. (3 units) 3 units

PhySci 2 – General Physics
Mechanics, heat and thermodynamics; electromagnetism, waves, optics and modern

Concepts and principles in the provision of basic care in terms of health

Concepts and principles in the provision of basic health care in terms of health
promotion/maintenance and disease prevention at the community level. 5 units (3

Euth 1 – Values Education and Personality Development 1
This course aims to create personality awareness and walks you through several
aspects of personality development. This course is interactive and covers all aspects
of growth for self and at the work place. (3 units)
Euth 2 – Values Education and Personality Development 2
This course will equip the students with the skills to face group discussions
and interviews effectively and will help the students to attain professional
excellence. (3 units)
GenPsy – General Psychology
This course deals with the underlying principles and approaches believed to
guide human behavior, including biological factors, learning, memory, social
cognition, intelligence, emotion, and personality. (3 units)

Philo 1N – Logic and Critical Thinking
This Couse deals with the analogy of the critical nature of thinking and clarity of
thought. It also analyzes argument into its basic parts. Sound and unsound
arguments, Logical proofs and symbolizing are emphasized. (3 units)
Philo 2 - Philosophy of Man
An inquiry into man as person and his existence in the world with emphasis on the
Filipino in the context of his culture and society. (3 units)
Ethics 1N – Health Ethics with HIV/AIDS
This interdisciplinary course will explore interconnections among ethics, law and
health care by examining classic legal-medical ethics cases, legal rules and ethical
principles, controversial issues such as access to health care, beginning of life
issues, patients’ rights, end-of-life issues, disorders of consciousness, HIV/AIDS
issues and organ transplantation. Special attention will be given to ethical conflicts,
as well as the roles of ethics consultants and ethics committees. (3 units)
SocSci 2N –Sociology-Anthropology
The nature of human society and culture; social structure and non-literate societies
particularly with respect to their kinship systems.(3 units)
Eco 3 – Health Economics with TAR
This course deals with the basic principles and concepts in Economics designed to
analyze problems and situations of our nation’s economy and health. The subject
presents topics as Market structure, Investment, inflation, deflation, and other terms
shall be defined. The emphasis on Demand and Supply are discussed in a simple
and easy tone, and the inclusion of the economic policies of the government which
cover taxation, Agrarian Reform and Cooperative are all important matters of the
subject. (3 units)
SocSci 1 - Philippine History and Government with Philippine Constitution
A comprehensive cultural and socio-economic history of the Philippines from the
Pre-Hispanic period to the present. (3 units)
SocSci 3 – Politics and Governance with the New Philippine Constitution
Trends of the growth, organization, functions and working of the government of the
Republic of the Philippines, with emphasis on Philippine Constitution; includes a
comparative analysis of the Constitutions. (3 units)

Biography of Dr. Jose Rizal; a critical view of the social order in which he lived,
through an analysis of his works and letters, his opinions on nationalism,
government, religion, education, as well as his philosophy of living and the
relevance of these ideas to the contemporary Philippine scene. (3 units)
SocSci 7 - Asian Civilization
Focuses on health practices of Asian countries as a basis for the practice of
transcultural nursing. It also includes the geographical and historical settings of
these civilizations. (3 units)
NURSING PROFESSIONAL SUBJECTS
NCM 100 - Foundation of Nursing
Overview of nursing as a service, an art, and a profession. It shall include a
discussion on the different roles of a nurse emphasizing on health promotion, illness
prevention utilizing the nursing process as a basis for nursing practice. 3 units (2
units Lecture , 1 unit RLE)
NCM 101 - Maternal and Child Nursing
The focus of this course is on the nursing needs of individuals as they relate to
childbearing and children. Experience in preventive, supportive, and therapeutic
care is offered through clinical experience in the care of the obstetrical patient,
newborn, child and adolescent. Students are provided the opportunity to utilize
critical thinking, the nursing process, nursing skills, and management skills in
various health care settings. 16 units ( 8 units Lecture, 8 units RLE)
NCM 102 - Medical Surgical Nursing and Maternal and Child Nursing with RLE
Concepts and principles of nursing care management of clients with alteration in
human functioning across the life span in varied settings.16 units (8 hrs. Lecture, 8
hrs. RLE)
NCM 103 - Related Learning Experience
Focuses on the enhancement of the student skills by previous concepts given in
NCM 101 and 102. 4 units

NCM 104 - Curative and Rehabilitative Nursing Care Management

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
This course deals with the concepts, principles and theories of human behavior and
the care of the sick client across the lifespan with emphasis on the adult and the
older person, population group experiencing alterations in inflammatory and
immunologic response and perception and coordination in varied settings. The
course is designed to focus on health and illness across the lifespan of clients,
population groups with acute and chronic psycho-social difficulties and psychiatric
illnesses. This is a continuation of NCM 102 and 103. 16 units (8 hours lecture, 8
hours RLE)
NCM 105 – Nursing Management and Leadership
This course deals with the concepts, principles, theories and methods of developing
nursing leaders and managers in the hospital and community-based settings. It also
includes ethico-moral/legal aspects of health care and nursing practice and the
nurses’ responsibilities for personal and professional growth. 16 units ( 8 units
lecture, 8 units RLE)
N1 – Drug Solution with Pharmacology
Introduces the science of pharmacology and considers the role of the registered
nurse in the preparation, management and administration of medications. The
course provides a working description of the principles of pharmacodynamics and
pharmacokinetics and identifies the role of nerve pathways in the action of drugs.
An emphasis on understanding the action of medications, safe administration
practices and competence in drug calculations is made. (3 units)
N2 - Basic Nutrition
Basic nutrients, their functions, sources, metabolism, physiology and
interrelationships including human nutritional requirements and importance of
good nutrition to one’s health, the family and the community. (3 units)
N3 - Community Health Development
Focuses on the in-depth discussion of the principles, approaches, strategies, and
processes to community health development.Equips the students with the principles
of health education as a core Community Organizing Participatory Action Research
(COPAR) model. (3 units)
