SCHOOL AUDIT

DAY-5
 DATE: Wednesday,11th sepetember,2019.

 SCHOOL NAME: Dashabatia Sarkari high School.

 PLACE NAME: Dashabatia village.

 STRENGTH OF THE SCHOOL: MALE: 30, FEMALE:20, PWD:0, TEACHERS:2

 KEY FINDINGS: The key findings are

 The school is running under Dept. of School and Mass Education, provides education only from 9th to
10th standard.
 There is a playground but not exactly as per the guideline of sports authority of India and The school
has boundary around the school premises.
 There is library and computer room, essential laboratory kits and books are there, but there are no
specific room for library and laboratory.
 The CCTV monitoring is not there.
 the Fani has affected the infrastructure to some extent places like the abandoned school building.
 There is a temporary teacher for computer class.
 The school have the accessibility to First-aid Box and the use of it hasn’t displayed.
 There is SMC(School Management Committee) to take care of any matters related to school.
 The psychosocial aspects of students are not given any consideration and not taken in course of
interest and importance.
 The school don’t provide any kind of facility for PWD students.

 OBSERVATIONS:

a) SCHOOL BUILDING: The school building is constructed by Government. As local contractors


constructed the building without maintaining National building Code, 2005.Toilets and Bathrooms
are of no proper use and there is no adequate water facility with inspections and regulations. There
are no doors for evacuation during the emergency situation. A few months ago, infrastructural
damage has been sustained through measures and implementation.
b) FIRE SAFETY MANAGEMENT: They don’t have the accessibility to the modern measures to mitigate
the fire rather using the traditional ways like water.
c) Earthquake Management: The building is safe from earthquake. Services are restricted to the power
and supervision of State Government. They don’t have any contact from Disaster Management
Association.
d) Flood/Cyclone/landslide management: The school is being situated near Bay of Bengal, but there are
no mechanisms offered by the school authority itself. And the teachers are not aware of the mock
drill training too.
e) ELECTRICAL SAFETY: The electric facility is being maintained and supervised by the Konark Electric
Committee and they checks all the facilty for twice in a year.

f) Safety from constructional hazards: There is no hazards related to threating of life. Because, no
construction is going on.
g) Safety in the playground and sports activities: There is playground and it’s surrounded by the wall
and water logging issue has not found there.
h) Water safety: Only one tube well is there for potable water and a filtration system attached to it. But
they haven’t obtained any certificate of having pure drinking water.
i) THERE IS NO TRANSPORT SERVICES IN TEEMS OF SCHOOL BUS OR VAN.
j) TRAUMA MANAGEMENT: The school doesn’t have that much of knowledge on the concept of
trauma, they believe that the students are too little to understand this kind of concept. The students
are also not sensitized about the topic too.
k) Safety of the children with disabilities: They don’t have any facilities for disable children.
l) Health: They provide periodic (twice in a year) health check-up facilities with the help of PHCs and
there are concerned authorities to keep the medical records of the students. The teachers use to
keep contact with the parents about the students. Having toilet facility, the students are not using as
they are habituated to open defecation.
m) Safety of Children against Sexual Abuse: They are not aware about this issue and they have a
stereotype on discussing the issue openly. Students are not aware of the issue too.

CONCLUSION
During the time of school auditing, it may be concluded by saying so that though the school is
running under Odisha Government surveillances but they are not getting many of the services
provided by govt. Because of not having proper knowledge about where to apply or whom to apply
for getting the services. From this school safety audit questions, the teachers also learned about so
many issues that should be taken care. The cleanliness and hygiene issues that has direct impact
towards health is still in the list of negligence.
