A Comprehensive Analysis on Global Company Operating In Malaysia

Instructions:

This is a group project of 9 students. Your group will be assigned a Malaysian Global
company and the students of each group will be assigned the task as follows;

Student 1. History of the Company:

 How long have they been in business?


 Who is the initiator of the company?
 How has their business changed over the years?
 Do they plan to expand, penetrate, diversify, or change their retail format in
the near future?
 What is the latest issue related to this company

Student 2. Product/Services Assortment:

 What are the major brands they carry?


 Do they have private brands?
 Where does this retailer's product/service fit on the category life cycle?
 Why do you think they chose this stage of the life cycle?
 Does this retailer carry convenience goods, shopping goods or specialty
goods or services?

 Define their customer according to demographics (age, gender, income


level, education etc.) based on their offering.

Student 3. Human Resources:

 What is the common trait of its employees? (appearance, age group, race,
etc)
 How do they source for new employees?
 Evaluate the employees loyalty towards the company.
 Do you think the employees are well trained? Give reason to your opinion.
 Do you think they are happy to work with the company?
Student 4. Store/Branch Location:

 Where is this retail store located? (CBD, Shopping Center, Specialty Center,
MXD)
 Why do you think they chose this location?
 Is this site accessible for the customer? (connectivity, customers parking
facility etc)
 Do you think the chosen site is suitable for their business?
 Should they move to other location? Why?
 Where do you suggest them to relocate? Why?

Student 5. Pricing:

 What is this stores pricing policy? (Everyday Low Pricing, High/Low Pricing
etc.)
 What other practices do they use to compete with price? (Coupons,
Rebates, Price Bundling)
 Does this retailer use the cost-oriented method of pricing or
demand-oriented pricing.
 Is there a frequent shopper program? Do you think it is effective?

Student 6. Communication Mix:

 What are the main type of communication mix the company used?
 What type of paid advertisements does this business use?
 What type of unpaid communication does this business use?
 Does this retailer use cooperative advertising? With whom?
 What type of sales promotions does this retailer use? (Sales,
Sampling, Demos, Contests etc.)

Student 7. Customer Service:

 What type of services does this store offer? (Alterations, gift-wrapping etc.)
 Talk to 3 customers - What is their perception of this stores customer
service?
 How does this store handle customer complaints?
 Does this store have “mystery shoppers” to check level of service?
 Is the salesperson “empowered” to make decisions or is it up to
management?
 How happy are their customers with the customer service provided by the
company?
Student 8. Competitive Advantage:

 Does this retailer have a “competitive advantage” over similar stores?


 How can they sustain this advantage or achieve an advantage over their
competition?
 Will the competitive advantage still relevant in five years time?
 Should they stick to the same competitive advantage or develop a new one?
 What type of new competitive advantage you can suggest to the company?

Student 9. 4Th Industrial Revolution (IR) Application to the Company

 Do you think the company is up to date with the latest retailing technology?
 Have the company established its website? What do you think about the
company’s website?
 To what extent the company has engage with e-commerce? What level has it
utilized?
 To what extent they have mechanized their retail operation?
 Is it possible they use robots to replace part of their employees need?

The project must be submitted as follows;

1. In a video format showing each student presentation (5 minutes).

2. In a written report in PPT slides (5-10 slides per student),

All theses need to be submitted in a soft copy folder containing one folder for each
member on the 11/12/2019. Student is responsible to ensure the ppt and video is
accessible.

Marks will be given on the content, creativity, interesting presentation, and


participation in the presentation.

The assignment carries 20% marks.
