ASSIGNMENT 3 : Dynamics
Questi Statement of Question CO
on
1 Water drops from a faucet at the rate of 4 drops per second as shown in fig. CO1
Determine the vertical separation between two consecutive drops after the lower
drop has attained a velocity of 3 m/s.

2 A stone is thrown vertically upward with a velocity of 23.5 m/s from the top of CO1
a tower 25 m high. Calculate
i) Time required for the stone to reach the ground
ii) The maximum height to which the stone will rise in its flight
3 The equation of motion of a particle moving in a straight line is given by CO1
S= 21t + 5 t2 – 3 t3
Find
i) The velocity and acceleration at start
ii) The time when the particle reaches its maximum velocity
iii) The maximum velocity of the particle
4 A particle moves along a straight line with an acceleration described by CO2
the equation a = 6t2 – 5, where a is in m/s2 and t is in seconds. At t= 1 sec,
the particle is at a distance of 7 m and at t = 2 sec it is at a distance of 20
m. determine the position of the particle when t = 4 sec.
5 A motorcyclist wants to clear the ditch as shown in the fig. If the ramp at B is CO2
of 15⁰, determine the minimum speed of the motorcyclist at B
6 CO2

A basketball player throws a ball with initial velocity 6.5 m/s at an angle 50⁰ to
the horizontal. The ball is 2.3 m above the ground when released.
Calculate
i) The height of the basket
ii) Time taken by the ball to reach the basket.
7 Two auto mobiles travelling in the same direction in adjacent lanes are stopped CO1
at a highway traffic signal. As the signal turns green, automobile A accelerates
at a constant rate of 1 m/s2. Two seconds later automobile B starts and accelerates
at a constant rate of 1.3 m/s2. Determine
i) When and where will B overtake A
ii) The speed of each automobile at that time.
8 The weights of the three blocks shown in the fig are W A = 100 N, WB = 200 N CO3
and Wc = 200 N. Co-efficient of friction between block A and the flor is 0.2, that
between floor and block is 0.25.Assuming pulleys are weightless and smooth,
find the acceleration of each block.

9 Find the tension in the string and accelerations of blocks A and B weighing 200 CO3
N and 50 N respectively, connected by a string and frictionless pulleys as
Shown in fig.
