 vacuum build up in turbine:
 before main steam enters into turbine there should
be vacuum inside condenser. the starting(hogger)
ejector is used to maintain vacuum inside the
condenser initially. This is a single stage non
condensing ejector.
 Following steps are to be followed to build up
vacuum by starting ejector:
1.Ensure auxiliary steam (motive steam) at desired
pressure and temperature is available.
2.Ensure the vacuum break valve of the condenser
is closed.
3. Ensure cooling water is circulating in the
condenser and turbine gland is charged fully.
4. open steam valve of the starting ejector.
5. observe steam is vented to atmosphere.
6.open ejector air valve.
7.observe vacuum inside condenser is increasing
slowly.
Through starting ejector, vacuum in the condenser can be
obtained faster. But the steam used in this ejector is not
utilized.it is vented to atmosphere. So main ejector is to be
taken in to line , once turbine is loaded and starting ejector Is
to be stopped.
 To put main ejector in line following steps are followed:
 Ensure condensate extraction pump is running.
 Open the cooling water (discharge of CEP) inlet and
outlet valve of the ejector condenser, which is to
be put in service.
 Vent out air from water box of the ejector
condenser.
 Open the condensate drain valve of inter ejector
condenser and after ejector condenser of that
ejector which is connected to main condenser.
 Open steam valve of after ejector condenser.
 Open steam valve of inter ejector condenser.
 Observe condensate is drained out from both the
condenser(drain line will be felt warm if touched).
 Slowly open air valve of the ejector and observe
vacuum is increasing or not.

When vacuum is stable then starting ejector is

stopped by closing air valve first then the steam
valve of that ejector .
