Black Swans that will affect our sector

1) Large outbreak of food related diseases that affects millions.

Outbreaks of Swine Flu etc. increase global demand for fish which makes this a very positive black swan
for our market. Conversely, fish flu or other disease among the fish will need to be addressed
immediately so that it doesn’t cause too much loss which will be a negative black swan

2) More dead zones being formed in the ocean.

Dead zones will be a big problem for fisheries but if they take place it can be used for DSM

3) Civil War breakout in China causing massive destruction to their manufacturing power.

Chinese investment drying up can be a problem for us since our trade amounts to about $10 bn with
them. However the China seaweed, fish and DSM markets can be captured if possible.

4) High level of mercury contamination in the Bay of Bengal

This would potentially destroy fishing stocks and unless corrected early could lose us a lot of market
share. For this we need to maintain stocks and also focus on seaweed etc.
