Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s mystic teachings and contributions:

Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar stayed with his mother till the age of 20 years. He wanted to gain knowledge from outside
of his village but whenever he made such a determination, the obedience to his mother obstackled his way and he
used to postpone his determination. He spent his days of early youth in the obedience and service of his parents.
Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar was a true Sunnite. He belonged to Hanafite school of thought. He spent his whole life
in the company of true Sunnite scholars. He kept on friendships and sittings with his contemporary scholars.
Moreover, Qalandar also journeyed along with them.

Lal Shahbaz Qalandar travelled in his extreme old age to preach the virtues. He patronized learning. He observed the
status and position of other scholars. He led the prayers a few times and tried to be led by other scholars in his prayers.
Lal Shahbaz Qalandar was an expert in grammar and linguistics. He had a full understanding of Persian and Arabic.
Moreover, he was also a good poet. Some of his books include, Sarf-e-Saghir, Ijnas, and Mizan-us-Surf. These books
were included in the syllabus of Madrassahs of that time.

Lal Shahbaz Qalandar performed his duties as an Arabic and Persian teacher at Baha-ud-Din Madrassah in Madina-
tul-Aulia Multan. At that time Sindh became a center of knowledge and scholars. Lal Shahbaz Qalandar was like a sun
among this constellation of scholars at Sehwan Sharif. In a poem Lal Shahbaz Qalandar described his faith as:

“Usman is the slave of Holy Prophet peace be upon him and his 4-companions ___Abu Bakr, Umar, Usman
and Ali. I am hopeful about the habits and morality of Arab Prophet.”

Here are some of the Qalandar’s quotes and utterances:-

i. “Our Generous Prophet is the head of all the creatures; and he peace be upon him is a religious guide
and only he is the light for the whole world. Only he is the center to seek the whole knowledge and
belief, and he is the refuge for faith. Only the following of his path may surely cause a salvation.”
ii. “A man engrossed in the world can’t reach the God.”
iii. “Keep secrets of God always a secret.”
iv. “A devotee must serve his Spiritual Master in his presence as well as in his absence.”
v. “Sit in the Company of mystics wherever you find a place.”
vi. “Friendship and closeness to Allah must be achieved.”
vii. “One who gets freedom from this world and attains absorption in Allah, is a Qalandar.”
viii. “Mystic singing is essential to eliminate the hardness of the heart.”
ix. “This world is an Examination world.”
x. “A renouncer of this world, the Tahajud offerer, and a person free from physical tastes is a
Qalandar.”
xi. “The military forces of a king can never ever win such spiritual victories as a Qalandar does.”
xii. “I am burning with Beloved’s love every moment. At one moment, I am writing on dust and
in the other, I am dancing on thorns.”
