KIWANIS FESTIVAL LISTENING ASSIGNMENT: Student Adjudication

WHY? Listening to other choirs can help us learn how to improve our own performance and
is also really fun! Learning how to think like an adjudicator helps develop our ear and our ability to give
constructive feedback that helps ourselves and each other to grow into better musicians.
HOW?
1) Listen attentively, supportively and thoughtfully to another choir’s performance.
2) Think like an adjudicator: what are these singers’ strengths? Where could they afford to grow together as
musicians and as musical teammates?
3) Write specific constructive comments on musical and performance elements (use your Adjudication
Package we studied in class to inform what you hear/see).
 Comments: 4+ comments per piece = A (9+/10); 3 comments = B ( 7-8/10), etc.
4) Give an overall rating (on a scale of 1 to 5; 5=artistic level=awesome, 1=gathering level=needs improvement)
for the listed musical performance elements based on the choir’s performance of their whole musical set.
5) Clap enthusiastically and show your support for all the hard work they have put into their performance!
