Dear Candidate,

Congratulations!  On behalf of the officers and members of the California
Lambda Chapter at University of California, Davis, I am happy to inform you that
your high academic standing allows us to consider you for membership in Tau Beta
Pi, the engineering honor society.

Tau Beta Pi is the oldest engineering honors society in the United States, founded in 1885 to
recognize outstanding students who display both distinguished scholarship in technical fields and exemplary
character.  Tau Beta Pi is highly regarded within industry and academe, and has grown to include 234
collegiate chapters and has initiated more than 445,000 members.

There are many benefits to being a Tau Bate. As examples, the Association offers more than 100
scholarships of $2,000 for its senior­year members, and the Engineering Futures Program provides trained
instructors to teach interpersonal and leadership development skills to 2,000 students annually.  Tau Beta
Pi also offers opportunities for personal development by providing a means by which you can assume roles
of leadership in the college and provide distinctive service.

The members of the California Lambda Chapter are proud of their active participation within the
college and the local community.  They are individuals who not only strive for success in academics, but
who also wish to improve the world they live in, while at the same time having fun!  Our chapter is
growing, and we have many activities planned for the remainder of the year.  We hope that you will take
advantage of this opportunity to be recognized for your achievements and join our chapter in making a
difference in the community.

We would like to get to know you and provide you with more information about Tau Beta Pi.
Please join us and other eligible candidates at one of our two orientation meetings.  The orientation
meetings will be on Monday October 7th at 6:10pm and Thursday October 10th at 6:10pm.  Both meetings

and the national Tau Beta Pi website at www.tbp.org to learn more about this distinguished organization.
