Technology Integration Form – STUDENT PORTFOLIOS

GENERAL INFORMATION
Selected Technology/Resource Name: Age/Grade Level: Technology/Resource Type:
LiveBinder 17/18- 12th

Associated Learning Standard(s): The resource may be generally applicable, if so, simply state that. List any ISTE-S standards that
seem to naturally align with the selected resource.
 ITSE-S.1c.: Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and
to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
 ITSE-S.3c.: Students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to
create collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions.
 ITSE-S.7b.: Students use collaborative technologies to work with others, including peers, experts or
community members, to examine issues and problems from multiple viewpoints.

RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Give a brief description of the technology/resource.

LiveBinder is a website that allows students to create a digital binder. The free version of LiveBinder only allows a person to
create four (4) Base tabs and one (1) sub tab. A student could also color code their base tabs and sub tabs so that may be
potentially useful for the more visual learners. One can also attach any sort of medium in LiveBinder, such as videos, pictures,
audio, and more. My big issue with how they allow the attachments is the fact that it has to be in link form while in LiveBinder
instead of showing up in the binder itself. LiveBinder also has a ‘search’ function which would give the student the ability to be
able to search one key word/phrase, which will allow them to get to the appropriate notes faster. LiveBinder also allows the
creation of multiple other binders which means that students could use this website for various other classes. Students can also
make their binders sharable by providing a link to their binder.

INTEGRATION IDEA - PORTFOLIOS

How might you use this resource in a lesson plan to promote student-centered learning?

I think I would use this as a way to be able to better check how students are organizing their thoughts and what resources they
may be using. I personally believe that there are not enough students who know how to write/type proper notes and this would
be a good way for me to gauge where they are at on this particular ability without having to decipher chicken scratch. I would also
use this if we had some sort of ongoing learning project where I would need to check what exactly they are doing (resources used,
pictures, videos, etc. etc.) in a fast and efficient manner.

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION
 Based on the “value-added rating scale” above, how would you rate the technology integration you described, using the
selected resource?
 Explain your rating based on the rubric indicators.

LiveBinders does fall in line with the content standards described above. I think that it could enhance the learning by allowing me
to better critique their note taking abilities, keep up with what they are doing, and to allow them to take notes in a way where
they won’t have to decipher their own handwriting as I know that can be an issue at times. I also like the fact that students can
easily share their notes with other students so it could potentially greatly help students who may miss a day of school or more
easily collaborate together. This will definitely be used by the students directly.
