LESSON PLAN LESSON: 4

Teacher: Fatima Ahmed Subject: Science

Grade: 5 Unit: Date: 31-10-2019

SKILLS AND UNDERSTANDING

Students will be able to:

• identify the limiting factors of relationship on ecosystem.

Link to prior learning: Students will need to be familiar with the following because they already have learned
about ecosystem, living thing and non-living things.

21st Century Skills: Students will be able to communicate together in the activity,

Key vocabulary: biotic, abiotic, relationship, limiting factors, population.

Common misconceptions for learners: Ways of identifying and addressing these misconceptions:

• the teacher will teach them about limiting factors, and she
will show them a picture, so they understand it.
• the student will not know what
is limiting factors is.

Resources/equipment needed:

2 pictures to projected in the board.

Exit tickets.

Activity.

Happy and unhappy card.

UNIT: LESSON: 1 TASKS/ACTIVITIES

Resources & Time Starter (10 minutes)

Teacher Will: Students Will:
• Put a picture on the board,
the picture is about biotic • Tree, mountain, water.
and she will ask the student
what can you see in this
picture? • No.
• Good, and can you see any
things else? • Trees.
• What is the living thing we
can see in the picture?
• Okay, and if we have a tree,
we can find animals on the • Bird, monkey and squirrel.
tree, what kind of animals
that lives on the tree?
• Okay, in science we call the
living things in ecosystem a
biotic.
• The teacher will show them • Only mountains and sand.
a picture of abiotic.
• What did you see in this
• no
picture?
• There is any animals in this
picture?
• This is called abiotic
because there is nonliving
things in this ecosystem, in
abiotic you will find water,
sunlight, weather and
temperature.
Resources & Time Main activities (30 minutes)

Focus Centre: Teacher Will: Students Will:

• Ask the student what is the
thing that increase the
population on ecosystem,
(what is the things that let • Food, water, shelter.
the animals and plants
happy and healthy, so they
live long time)?
• And what is the things that
decrease the population, it • Other animals will eat them.
makes the number of
animals decrease?
• The teacher will give each
student a piece of paper
that have happy in front
and unhappy on the back.
• The teacher will tell the
student: write for me the
things that is make you
happy in ecosystem and
unhappy.
• The teacher will distribute
the papers for them. • The student will write their
names and start writing.

Centre 2: E.g. Art • The teacher will give them

only 5 minutes to do it then
she will take the papers.
• Who know what is limiting • :/
factors?
• Okay limiting factors is any
resource that control the
growth of population, for
example: if the forest
doesn’t have any rabbit,
mouse or deer’s the fox will
die because the fox will not
find any food to eat so the
limiting factors control the
increasing and decreasing
of animals. Also, it controls
other things like the
rainfall, temperature, soil,
space and sunlight, the
forest must to have a rain
and sunlight so the plants
will grow and have energy.
• We have also something
called carrying capacity: it is
the greatest number of
living things in ecosystem.
so everything is limited if
we have 5 loins the five
loins will find a food to eat
if we have 10 and there is
not enough food to eat
they will have a problem
and they will die so the
carrying capacity is about
balance in the ecosystem.

Centre 3: E.g. Math • So now we will do an

activity you will have this
paper and in the first
triangle you should to draw
5 limiting factors that affect • Yes
population, and in the top
you will write Things that
decrease the population:
(dangerous to the animals)
and Things that
increase the population:
• (good for animals).
• Are you ready?
• The student will start writing.
• The teacher will give them
the paper.

Centre 4: E.g. • The teacher will give the • The student will have the
Writing student an exit ticket and paper and then they will start
the question are: what is a writing the answer on it.
limiting factor? • The student will have a
• The teacher will say when pyramid when they finish
you finish raise your hand writing.
and I will collect the exit
ticket from you.
