SPEAKING: A JOB INTERVIEW

Prepare to interview your partner for the job he/she has chosen.
STEPS:
(Interviewer)
1. Greet the applicant and introduce yourself.
How do you do? My name is .... I’m the Human Resources
Manager.

2. The first question is often a "breaking the ice" (establish a rapport) type
of question. Don't be surprised if the interviewer asks you something like:

• How are you today?

• Did you have any trouble finding us?
• What do you think of the weather lately?

3. Ask the questions you have prepared. Introduce them like this:
I’d like to ask you a few questions. First of all....
4. Take notes and show an interest in the applicant’s answers. Oh, I see.
That sounds interesting.
5. Invite the applicant to ask questions. Do you have any questions?
6. Thank the applicant and say when you will be in touch.
Thank you for coming. I will call you next ....

(Interviewee)

1. It is important that you introduce yourself, shake hands, and are friendly.
2. Answer the questions to break the ice without going into too much detail.
The language you use should be simple but polite, for example;
3. Answer the rest of questions. Use different tenses.
4. Ask questions to the interviewer:

• Could you tell me more about the job?

• Is there a dress code?
• Who would I be working with?
