Critique Paper about: Three Idiots (2009) about Mental Health

The movie is about the journey of two friends: Farhan and Raju together with Chatur, in finding
their missing buddy; Rancho. Their story started back when they were college students. Of course
college life is also tough, and became tougher because of the head of their college department, Mr.
Virus, which has an Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. Mr. Virus wanted to make all of his
students to be perfect in order to surpass his old director’s legacy. Due to Mr. Virus’ being control freak
and perfectionist, his students suffered from being anxious which led to them committing suicide. One
example is Joy Lobo, Mr. Virus’ student. Joy created a machine for his project but Mr. Virus rejected and
belittled it which caused Joy’s suicide leaving a suicide note in the wall of his room “I quit”.

In India, suicide is one of the most delicate subject to deal with. The country has the highest rate
of student suicide and the movie Three Idiots handled it in a very sensitive and intelligent manner. After
the popularity of the movie, news about 10 students appeared in India who committed suicide in a
Three Idiot style (leaving a suicide note “I Quit”) due to their professors pressuring the students about
school works.

There are reasons to be pressured with, in every stage of our lives. Putting more pressure on
someone who is already having a hard time would be more damaging and would cause them to break
apart. Over-controlling and pressuring could really lead to depression and worse, suicide, which should
be avoided as soon as possible. Thinking of a better approach to harness the students’ knowledge and
lift their spirits up could be more helpful than giving them more pressure while working about their
school works and their personal responsibilities.

We all have our own battles and demons that we deal with every single day; don’t be one of
them. Help other people lessen their worries and problems simply just by listening to them. Reaching
out would help a lot. Spread good vibes even if negativity is always around, fight for it and work for it.
