1.Summarize the story give importance on the issue about women that observed in the film

Secret superstar is a story about a girl named Insia, Insia was born gifted with the talent of singing
as she grew up she loved singing and dreamed to be a superstar someday, her mother was very
supportive on her dream, her mother made sacrifices to help her daughter reach her dream,
meanwhile her father never ever wanted her since the day she was born, that he does not want a
daughter, and wanted to abort Insia, but her mother Najma wanted to let her daughter live and have
a life, in the movie it is seen how much Insias father did not care about her, and how much she
disrespected her mother and beats her up even in the small mistakes, her Insia was not permitted
to have a dream by her father, to the point that when Insia failed at her class her father destroyed
her guitar, which was the only thing that Insia had, in the movie shows how men disregarded
women, that men seems to be the more dominant gender, Insia soon met Shakti Kumar a Singer
songwriter who now has almost dying career in music due to his change of music, but when she
met Insia he found his original style, and Insia sang his song which became a hit, and this helped
reach Insia’s dream to be a Superstar, Shakti Kumar also helped Insia in getting a lawyer for her
parents divorced because Insia has already had enough with his fathers abuses, but her mother did
not like her actions at first, but in the end right before Insia’s and whole family were to aboard the
plane to move to Riyadh for her father to work there, her father wanted to throw away Insia’s
guitar and her mother did not like the action and decided to sign the divorce papers infront of her
father, after that they went to the awards where Insia’s has revealed that she was the Secret
superstar. and without her mom she could not have achieved the Dream she wanted.

2.Pick at least 2 lines from the story, give your reflection on it.

“Talented kids like you are like bubbles in soda ... they come up one after another ... by themselves
... no one can stop them” said by Shakti Kumar when Insia’s said she wanted to join the contest,
what Shakti was trying to say that the best talents are recognized by pure talent, not just by any
contest, that when true talent is found it would just afloat above others and be found, talent is
unstoppable when it is true and beautiful, and Dreams should not be stopped it should be pursued.
“Singing songs, winning awards, has always been my dream … but, some people aren’t allowed
to dream … the freedom to dream … my mom gave me that too.” Insia was never allowed to dream

by her father, she couldn’t even show her talent because of her father, but her mother was all
support throughout everything, the true superstar here are the mothers they can do things we could
have not imagine, they do everything for their children, I personally can relate to this because my
mother was also supportive in all the things I dreamed off, she was always there in the times I
needed her, all mothers should be loved, and all women deserve to be respected, because they are
the true superstars of our world.

3.What are your insights about the issues on women tackled in the film. Relate some issues
of women today

In india every 3 minutes a crime against women is committed, in 2017 a total of 359,849 cases
were against women according to Gowthaman (2019), these cases are murder, rape, drowry death,
suicide abetment, acid attack, cruelty against women and kidnapping, “‘Cruelty by husband or his
relatives’ accounts for 27.9 per cent of the crimes against women” says Gowthaman (2019), just
like in the movie, it shows the things women go through in India, we can see Insia’s mother getting
beaten up by their father infront of them, in the start of the movie we could see Insia’s mother hide
her wounded eye by wearing glasses, we couldn’t imagine what more she had gone through that
has not been seen in the movie, a girl in India could not dream they are so restricted to do the
things they want, but all gender deserves the same things and same opportunity, the women of
India deserves a better life, a life were there is freedom, women deserve to be respected by Men,
to protect them not abuse them and hurt them. God created us equal and we deserve to be treated
equally, with equal rights and oppurtunities.
