The purpose of my essay is whether or not fashion has an influence on everyday life. I

believe it does have an influence because choosing what we wear for the day depends on how we

feel. We have the capability to express ourselves, and some peoples jobs are revolved around

fashion.

Delgado, Henry Navarro. The Conversation, The Conversation, 22 Jan 2018,

https://theconversation.com/fashions-potential-to-influence-politics-and-culture-90077.

Accessed on 20 Oct 2019.

Henry Navarro Delgado wrote an article, “Fashion’s Potential to Influence Politics and

Culture”, discussing the ways fashion has had the capability to have an impact on social issues.

Delgado says that it isn’t really fashion unless a majority of other people are dressing the same

for a long period of time. Rather than political dressing being how politicians dress, it is how

individuals and groups express their political outlook.

The writer's purpose for writing this article is to convince people that political dressing

isn’t considered fashion. However, it can be if enough people dress similarly. The audience is

those who read about fashion. The time when this article was written was dependant on what

political events were going on. It mattered because those events provided examples of how

people were dressing at the time.

Henry Delgado is an Assistant Professor of Fashion at Ryerson University. He has access

to information about fashion and can communicate with other professors about what he is

researching.
I will be able to use this source for my research because it contains information about the

influence fashion has on political events. This article will help me prove that fashion influences

politics and culture.

Robin Givhan’s article, “Balenciaga's Demna Gvasalia is Changing What We Consider

Fashion”, talks about how Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia has changed fashion. Gvasalia believes

fashion is a business. People see clothing and become inspired in ways that cause them to want

to change. Fashion has become different over the years due to what makes the brands have a

purpose.

The writer's purpose is to talk about how one thing can impact another in a grand way.

The audience is those interested in fashion and who read the news.

Robin Givhan is credible because he wrote this article for the Washington Post. It was

posted in April of this year, which makes it recent. The Washington Post published his article,

therefore they found it to contain information that needed to be shared.

I will use this source to prove how one person’s work can impact a greater variety of

people.

Victoria Kelley wrote a review called “Cheryl Buckley and Hazel Clark, Fashion and

Everyday Life: London and New York.” She believes the book established a new framework for

fashion studies. Fashions role on urban everyday life was examined. There were practices

described done in London and New York.

The purpose is to describe how she felt about the book and share her thoughts with

others. I think the audience is those who read reviews, critics, and the author of the book she

reviewed.

Victoria Kelley goes to Central Saint Martins University of the Arts in London. She is

credible because she is learning in school centered around the arts and knows information about

the book by reading it. The source is based on a book about fashion relating to everyday life,

which is exactly my topic.

I will use this source to prove ways fashion has impacted life and why. This source will

be in favor of my position on my topic.

Ľubica Knošková and Petra Garasová wrote “The Economic Impact of Consumer

Purchases in Fast Fashion Stores” about how fast fashion has become a new trend in today’s

society. Fast fashion caused the prices of clothing to decrease, which led to people to shop more.

There was a positive impact on the economy due to consumers making purchases in those stores.
The purpose is to inform people how the economy changed just by people buying

clothing from fast fashion stores. I find the audience to be those who are involved in the

economy and have jobs in the area.

Ľubica Knošková and Petra Garasová are credible because they are from a university

revolved around economics. Therefore, they are learning all about the economy and how it can

be impacted. I find this source reliable because it was published in June of this year. By it being

published so recently, it means there is recent information.

This source is about the economy, which people talk about every day. There are

economists that can use this information when discussing how fashion has brought more money.

I will use this source to prove that fast fashion can impact our economy every day by people

buying clothes.

Schramm, Adrian Daniel. Twin Cities Agenda, Twin Cities Agenda, 15 March 2018,

https://tcagenda.com/2018/fashion-lasting-impact-society/. Accessed on 20 Oct 2019.

Adrian Daniel Schramm’s article, “Does Fashion Have a Lasting Impact on Society”,

proposes the idea that fashion reflects society’s cultural, social, and economic environment. The

clothing you wear represents who you are in ways people initially would not see. Something that

fashion has proven is that there is only a border line in your mind of how far to go with fashion.

The main thing to understand about the impact of fashion is why it has one.

The author's purpose is to convince people there will always be an impact on society

caused by fashion. I believe the audience is those who care about society and want to learn more.

Adrian Schramm works with TiltMN and tries his best to better the news on the internet.

He is credible because the article he wrote contains information based on facts. The source was

published in March of 2018, so it is fairly recent.

I will use this source to provide information on how society is impacted by fashion. It

will help my stance that fashion has an influence on everyday life.

Su Jin Yang, and Yuri Lee. “Mid- to Low-End Fashion Brand Personality Affects

Consumers’ Perceived Quality, Commitment, and Loyalty.” Social Behavior &

Personality: An International Journal, vol. 47, no. 7, July 2019, pp. 1–14. EBSCOhost,

Su Jin Yang and Yuri Lee wrote the article “Mid- to Low-End Fashion Brand Personality

Affects Consumers’ Perceived Quality, Commitment, and Loyalty” about how newly marketed

fashion brands have emerged with economies. Chinese versus Korean consumer perceptions

were used on European an Korean mid-to-low end brands. Competence and sincerity proved that

they affected loyalty toward both brands.

The purpose is to compare how different brands have an affect on consumers. The

audience is mainly Chinese and Korean people because they were the ones being talked to.

However, anyone who reads the article wanting to learn how consumers are affected due to

fashion is also the audience.

Su Jin Yang and Yuri Lee were the authors, and they are credible because they are in the

Department of Consumer Science and Living Culture Industry. They are also in the Department

of Textiles, Merchandising, and Fashion Design. The authors can contain information from their

school and the departments, which helps them to gain more knowledge on consumers and

fashion.

This source talks about how different fashion brands personalities, which means what

their atmosphere and surroundings are like, affects consumers. I can use this information to

support my idea that consumers are affected by low and high end brands.
