Statement of Intent
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning
and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
Product 1
The representation of 'fun-loving' teenagers will be shown through the location (the beach/sea life
centre) of filming and the song chosen an indie-pop song) - the video will also include very bright light
which will create a positive and uplifting atmosphere. The shots will be short and snappy, which will
keep the attention and interest of teenagers. The actors are one male and one female (different social
groups) who are going on a 'fun day out' to the beach (which is a realistic thing that teenagers would
do).
In addition, the people featured within the music video will be teenagers/young adults which will
appeal to the teenage demographic and make the video more relatable - the viewer will be able to
easily imagine themselves within the video and/or base their own actions from what they have seen.
Furthermore, the band is signed to the record label 'Sony Music' so it must meet the rules and
regulations of Sony. So the video must be age-appropriate and not feature anything that would go
against Sony's guidelines - for example the actors will not be seen smoking or doing any drugs.
The second product is a website advertising the band. It will feature the music video, and other
important information about the band and will appeal to the intended target audience using serif text
and pictures relevant to the target audience's age/and the theme of their new music video (the
beach).
The band needs to be seen as suitable for teenagers to view and 'admire' so it is important that their
representation is age-appropriate and relevant to the target demographic. As the record label the
band is signed to is 'Sony music' the website must be produced to a high quality and show
correct/relevant information and have intertextual links to the music video that I have produced.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of
the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
The music video I create will feature an ending credits shot, where the band's website link (and logo)
will be shown on screen. This means that people will be able to go onto the website to find out more
information about the band just from watching the video. In addition, the band's website will have the
music video embedded within it and a separate page with information about the band/possible tour
dates, so that people who visit will be able to easily listen to their new music and find venues near
them.
This also means that the band will be exposed to a larger audience and will be able to generate a
larger income (and fanbase) as some people might not want to watch the music videos but will want
to see them play live. It is important to have intertextual links within products to keep up to date with
the changing media – people want to be able to find information quickly and easily, or they will lose
interest.
