Learning Goals and Outcomes

 I hope my students are able to identify theme as well as identify how it effects the story

as a whole. This will cover the standards regarding theme of novels.

 My students should be able to collectively write and put together new ending of a novel

in such a way that it alters the theme of the novel.

Description of Project-Based Learning Unit Activities

 The first day of the project will be discussion of what the project is. I will be showing a

PowerPoint that goes over all of the parts of the project. Within the PowerPoint will also

be a calendar of when each portion of the project is due.

 The second day will be a lesson on theme. I will be going over theme with my students

and analyzing the theme of the novel we read to assure they grasp the idea of theme.

 The next five days will be project work days where students will be either provided

laptops to type their writing or poster boards and art supplies.

 The eighth day will be when I will explain the last portion of the project. They will be

writing a paragraph explaining how the theme has changed due to the new ending of the

book they created.

 The last two days will be days to wrap up everything and get ready to turn them into me.

 I need to be aware that some of my students will struggle to write a new ending, that is

why I have created the option of doing a comic strip and completing it graphic novel

style.

 I will also be open to other styles students may bring to me to accommodate their

learning.
Assessment

 Students will have check points when certain parts of the project are due.

 The end paragraph explaining the new theme will be my main focus of how well they

grasped the project ideas.

Technology Support

 Students who choose to write a short story version will use laptops to type their papers.

Sustaining the Project

 If the project goes well I may share it with my fellow teachers and get them along with it

as well to possibly make it an annual project for that certain book.

Innovation

 I believe this project is innovative because it allows my students to be creative and to

have a voice. They have the ability to give a new message across through a popular book

and having projects like that in high school are so important to their overall experience.
