THE BIO CONCRETE

The Dutch scientist "Henk Jonkers", from the Technical University of Delft, in the Netherlands. He
invented the ‘Bio-Concrete’, it is a new construction material which repairs its cracks in the
structures by itself.

This "bio-concrete" is made with the bacterium Bacillus Pseudofirmus, which is mixed with the
common cement with the strains of this bacterium and calcium lactate is added to these
compounds, which is the food of these micro-organisms.

With the Bio-Concrete if a building cracks, the bacteria are exposed to different elements, including
water. The moisture in these fissures causes these bacilli to "wake up" and begin to eat calcium
lactate, and as a process of their digestion they secrete limestone closing the cracks that were there.

The total restoration of these cracks can take approximately three weeks.
