Comparison of Traditional Methods V/S Modern Methods

1. In past, companies generally used local paper advertisements as newspaper was the
cheapest mode and every one can afford to buy a newspaper. But now, Local paper
advertisements are there but, in less demand, instead of this, companies generally make
use of recruitment sites like LinkedIn, Naukri to post any job vacancies and make their
work load reduced and their work gets done.

2. In old days, recruiters will go to houses in search of candidates personally who have
completed 10th, 12th, graduation or post-graduation and recruit them. But now, they go to
colleges when they are about to leave/complete their specific studies and post their
vacancies for the freshers and complete the hiring process.

3. Previously, there used to be District Employment Exchange i.e. any candidate who has
completed his studies has to come and register his name and if any vacancies are there,
he/she used to be informed about that vacancies. But now, the candidates who
completed his studies, register his/her name in Employment Sites like LinkedIn, indeed
etc. to get notice of any vacancies.

4. Previously, interviews took place at the place of employment at the manager’s office
with job applicants coming with their resumes, well-dressed to impress the selection
panel and the selection team prepared questions for the interview. Now, the resumes,
documents, certificates, all have to be submitted online during submitting the
application. And of course, maximum work is carried out in soft copy/online form.

5. And another traditional method is internal hiring i.e. one employee will be multiple
works of different departments according to his potential. Now, we have sufficient
workforce for companies to recruit, so they make use of it.

6. During those days, interviews were conducted face-to-face i.e. employer and candidate
will be facing each other and employer will ask questions to the candidate. Now, due to
flexibility video interviewing is the prevailing one in the society i.e. interviews conducted
through skype and other video calling facilities etc.

7. Previously, they used to dump all the candidate’s profiles and resumes who are not
being selected and used to store those data of candidates who are selected. But now due
to advancements of technology, companies are using cloud storage to store the
information of the candidates who are being selected and who are not selected also.
Whenever there is an urgent vacancy, they make use of the cloud storages and go
through it and hire the candidate of the profession or qualities.
8. Now in modern days, job fairs are being conducted where stalls are put for each and

every company, and job seekers are invited to each and every stall. Here, every company
shows their work culture, ethics and convince the applicants. By doing this, companies
can attract a large pool of people from different fields to attain best talent.

9. Now, for higher position vacancies most companies during modern era uses this
method i.e. they seek for limited number of candidates those are correct handlers of the
present scenarios. This method is known as “Head Hunting”.

Advantages of Modern Technology in HRM

6. Big Data Analytics is also a modern tool creating more work convenience. Now a days,
Companies are carrying out continuous real-time assessment strategies for their staff
and feed them back immediately. It means they can now identify areas of improvements
and develop plans and addressing them and support them in order them to achieve their
goals.
