Rating Colleges by Student Activism

In “A New Way to Rank Colleges: What Percentages of Students Vote” author Karen

Gross discusses our current flawed ranking system and the emerging idea of ranking colleges not

only by endowment size and enrollment rates, but also by ranking them by tracking the number

of students who actively vote in local and midterm elections. Goss feels that if we had access to

that information new students who want to take an active role in their community and wish to

effect real change would be able to decide what school best handles and supports student politics

and activism before they apply.
