BP Pabillo's Rite of The Opening of Letran Jubilee PDF
On the afternoon preceding the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica, at the established
time which is 2:00 PM, the Letran Lay faithful, administrative and academic officials, faculty, staff
and students, gather at the Colegio Main Lobby toward which the procession will be directed.
The Bishop, concelebrating Priests, and Deacons put on white colored liturgical vestments and
make their way to where the people are gathered. Instead of a chasuble the Bishop may vest in a
cope, which he will remove after the procession.
While the Bishop and the ministers go to the places prepared for them, appropriate instrumental
music may be played.
GREETING
Bishop Pabillo:
Amen.
He then greets the people with these words:
Amen.

GOSPEL
Matthew 16:13-19
Bishop Pabillo:
PROCESSION
With miter and staff, the Bishop places incense in the thurible. The procession to the Colegio
Chapel where Mass will be celebrated then begins. The thurifer, carrying the lit thurible,
goes first, followed by a Liem Server carrying processional cross. On each side of him is a
candle bearer, followed by the Deacon bearing the Book of the Gospels, then the Bishop, and
behind him, the Priests and other ministers, followed by the lay faithful.
During the procession, an appropriate song may be sung (The Dominican Blessing) while the peo-
ple inaudibly prays the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory repeatedly in sequence until it reaches
the foremost door of the Chapel where the Rite of Blessing shall immediately follow.
ENTRANCE INTO THE COLEGIO CHAPEL 7
The procession stops at the main door of Colegio Chapel. Here the Bishop says:
Bishop Pabillo:
Bishop Pabillo:
I am the door.
If anyone enters by me, he will be saved
and will go in and out and find pasture.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
8 Once the antiphon is finished, the Rite of Blessing of the Jubilee Door follows. The Bishop
says:
Amen.
The Bishop sprinkles the Jubilee Door with Holy Water as he audibly says:
9
The Bishop then invites all to enter the Chapel through the Jubilee Door.
Bishop Pabillo:
The Choir may sing a suitable hymn while waiting for the Bishop. Servers and concelebrating
priests assemble themselves at the back for the procession.
Upon signal, the choir begins the entrance hymn,. The lay faithful enters first, followed by the
thurible, cross, and candles; the concelebrants and lastly the Bishop proceeds next with the Book
of the Gospels.
Once the Bishop reaches the altar, he places the Book of the Gospels upon it. Then, if he has worn a
cope for the procession, he removes it and puts on a chasuble. He then reverences the altar, incenses
it, and finally goes to his chair. The Mass proceeds in the usual way.

20 PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
Bishop Pabillo:
That those searching for God may find the rock of Pe-
ter’s faith and the courage of St. John the Baptist. Let
us pray to the Lord.
L oving Father,
you raised the body of your Son, the glorious
temple of the Resurrection. As his mystical body
and temple on earth, we offer our prayers to you,
hoping to share in the same Resurrection. We ask
this through Christ our Lord.
The people reply:
Amen.
22 LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST
PREPARATION OF THE ALTAR AND THE GIFTS
When all this has been done, the Offertory Chant begins. Meanwhile, the ministers place
the corporal, the purificator, the chalice, the pall, and the Missal on the altar.
It is desirable that the faithful express their participation by making an offering, bringing
forward bread and wine for the celebration of the Eucharist and perhaps other gifts to re-
lieve the needs of the Church and of the poor.
The Presider, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and holds it slightly
raised above the altar with both hands, saying in a low voice:
If, however, the Offertory Chant is not sung, the Presider may speak these words aloud; at
the end, the people may acclaim:
Then the Presider, standing at the side of the altar, washes his hands, saying quietly:
Amen.
THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER 25
PREFACE: The mystery of the Church, the Bride of Christ
and the Temple of the Spirit.
SANCTUS
26 EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II
Bishop Pabillo, with hands extended, says:
In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and dis-
tinctly, as the nature of these words requires.
I n a similar way,
when supper was ended,
He takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:
Then he says:
T herefore, as we celebrate
the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,
we offer you, Lord, the Bread of life
and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be in your presence and minister to you.
Humbly we pray
that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Bishop Pabillo or One Concelebrant:
T HROUGH HIM,
AND WITH HIM, AND IN HIM,
O GOD, ALMIGHTY FATHER,
IN THE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT,
ALL GLORY AND HONOR IS YOURS,
FOREVER AND EVER.
The people acclaim:
Amen.

Bishop Pabillo:

PRIVATE PREPARATION
Bishop Pabillo, with hands joined, says quietly:
After this, he takes the paten or ciborium and approaches the communicants. Bishop Pa-
billo raises a host slightly and shows it to each of the communicants, saying:
Amen.
While Bishop Pabillo is receiving the Body of Christ, the Communion Chant begins.
34 When the distribution of Communion is over, Bishop Pabillo or a Deacon or an acolyte pu-
rifies the paten over the chalice and also the chalice itself.
Let us pray.
Pause for silent prayer.
Amen.
Bishop Pabillo:
The assembly then invokes Mary, Mother of Mercy, by singing the Salve Regina.
