This is to inform that when Rakpoxy 1"50 HB primer applied at a lower thickness to steel structure
after blasting and before fabrication, the same acts as a shop primer.

Shop primers are used on structural steelwork immediately after blast cleaning, mainly on steel
plates and sections before fabrication. They help in maintaining the reactive blast cleaned in a
rust free condition until final painting.

They are generally applied at a thickness of 20 - 35 microns. At higher micron thickness, excessive
weld fumes are generated during welding.

The duration before final coating depends on the area of storage and environmental condition.
lf stored in a non-aggressive, indoor/covered environment the same can protect the steel from
corrosion for a few months. lf longer protection is required then Zinc Rich based shop primes are
best suggested. However, constant monitoring of steel under storage is highly recommended for
any kind of rusting.

The welded areas and the damaged areas (where primer has damaged due to handling), these
surfaces should be prepared properly and another coat of primer should be applied as per the
system recommended.

Surface preparation can be done manually by using sand paper and mechanically operated tools
to remove rust and get a proper surface profile for paint application.

However, if any rusting is observed on structure where shop primer is used then those structure
needs to be blast cleaned again before final paint application. lf any spotting is observed, that
area should be prepared and repainted immediately'
