An invitation letter is a type of letter written to an organization or an individual


for their participation or presence in an event or an occasion. The occasion can
be official (formal) or personal (informal)

Two types of Invitation Letters;

1. Official invitation letters are the ones which are written for inviting officials and certain
distinguished people. This invitation follows a formal format with formal tone. The invitation are
related to meeting, interviews, training, conferences, inaugurations, etc.
2. Personal invitation letters are the ones which are written for inviting friends, peers, relatives,
family members, neighbors, etc. to social occasions or event such as: weddings, birthday parties,
anniversaries, baby showers or other activities. Since it is informal, this letter is written in a
mixture of informal format and formal format.

The purpose of an invitation letter is to request the


attendance of a particular person, group of people, or
representative of an organization, at some particular event.

RSVP is a request for a response from the invited person. It is an


initials derived from the French phrase Respondez S’il Vous Plait,
meaning “Please respond”.
