 APPERANCE

 Clothing
Chaucer chooses to group these five tradesmen – a hat and accessories dealer (Haberdasher),
carpenter, weaver, cloth-dyer, and rug/tapestry maker respectively – together in one portrait.
They were having the same specific uniform as a sign of their membership to a common
fraternity.

 Equipment
The equipment that they used to carry were well made. These include knives which were not
coated with brass (an alloy of zinc and copper) but of silver. These equipment were very neatly
made and were of good quality. They used to had belts and purses which were well made.

used to have feastings on holidays. They liked to take this credit that we are actually behind the
success of our husbands. They used to wear such kind of dress that are long gowns having long
trains behind it, which could give them the look of royal class.

 SATIRE
The wives of tradesmen like to be treated as royal ladies. It is okay when someone calls them lady. They
were go outside for feast and dinner on holiday. Their wives also wear dresses like royal family having
long train.

 CONCLUSION
Chaucer speaks sarcastically of the guildsmen. He ironically describes them as being worthy of having
position on the town council. He says that they are all dressed as noblemen even though they are not
.They are members of the working unit and although they are well off have no right to act as nobility.
Chaucer also mention that the wives are even more pretentious having their tails lifted carried even they
go to church.
