1 Case Study: A job satisfaction survey


Job satisfaction refers to one’s feelings towards one’s job. Organizational commitment of the
employee is increased when the job satisfaction increases. A dataset is collected from the PhD
researcher of Bangladesh university of professionals, Fall 2019; to find out the relationships between
several personal and organizational variables; to asses the level of employee job satisfaction on their
working condition and environment.
The data are given in the file File:
PhD_2019_Survey_BUP.sav

2 List of variables:
The variables listed in the dataset are as follows.
1. Gender, Respondent’s gender.

2. Age, Respondent’s age in year.

3. Edu Back, Educational Background.

4. Marital Status, Marital Status.

5. serve org, Did you serve any organization before.

6. Num serve org, If Yes, No. of organizations served before.

7. experience, Years of experience.

8. working environment, Physical working environment is comfortable.

9. respect, Employees are treated with due respect.

10. complaints, Employee’s complaints are considered.

11. quarters facility, Staff quarters facilities are available.

12. tie ups hospitals, Company have tie ups with hospitals.

13. Insurance schemes, Insurance schemes provided by the organization are good.

14. Salary structure, Salary structure is above average in the industry.

15. bonus scheme, Yearly bonus scheme is satisfactory.

16. incentive, Performance based incentives are given.

17. job training, The company provides job-specific training.

18. support higher edu, Management supports for higher education.

19. time spend family, I get enough time to spend with my family.

20. flexibility, I get flexibility in my working schedule.

21. overall satisfactionon, What is your overall level of satisfaction on your job? (between
1- 5).

3 Answer the research questions:


1. What proportion of the respondents are female?

2. What proportion of the respondents educational background are Masters?

3. What are the average year of job experience of male and female employees?

4. Do you think payment is a source of job satisfaction? Give your explanations based on
evidence under this study.

5. How many organizations are served on an average by the respondents under the study?

6. How dispersed the respondents ages are?

7. What is the general pattern of the respondents year of job experience?

8. Compute a variable named “joining age” labeled as “ respondents age when he/she first
started his/her job-life”. What is the respondents average joining age ?

9. What is the relationship between age and year of experience?

10. Do you think gender have association with year of experience?

11. Do you think marital status have association with employment status?
