WELDED CONNECTIONS

Eg 4) A welded connection is shown in figure. An A36 steel plate is used with Fy = 248
MPa. Size of fillet weld is 8 mm. Use E70 Electrode with Fu = 485 MPa.
a) Compute the capacity of the connection shown using SMAW process.
b) Compute the capacity of the connection shown using SAW process

WELDED CONNECTIONS
Eg 5) A 150mm x 90 mm x 12mm angular section is welded to a gusset plate having a
thickness of 12 mm. An A36 steel is used with a yield stress of 248 MPa, with an E70
electrodes fillet welds with Fu = 485 MPa.

Properties of L 150 mm x 90 mm x 12 mm
A = 2903 mm2
y = 52.83 mm

a) Compute the design force P from tension of the section.

b) Compute for “a” using dynamic method of analysis.
c) Compute for the value of “b” using dynamic method of analysis.

Eg 6) Welded Connection in Truss
A joint in a welded truss is shown in figure. Use E60
Electrode with Fu = 415 MPa. Compute the ff:
a) size of filler weld to be use in member B
b) value of “a” in member B
c) value of “b” in member B
