Interview with Nichelle Levy

Job: Senior Counsel, Digital and privacy data, legal for NASCAR Digital Media, LLC

Question 1: Can you tell me about your job and how you got started in the industry?

Job Description: Avisises NASCAR Digital Media and other affiliates on technology related
agreements and compliance with privacy, data security, promotion and other laws

- She joined NASCAR in 2012


- Prior to joining NASCAR she was an associate in the Corporate Department of Robinson
Bradshaw and Hinson in Charlotte NC, where she was apart of Sports and
Entertainment and Intellectual Property Practice Groups
- While in law school, she was a legal intern with the National Hockey League
- Originally started off her career in advertising and brand management with Leo Burnett,
Philip Morris and EMI Music
- Served as chairs of the Sports and Entertainment law section of the NC Bar association
from 2015-2016

Question 2: Why did you decide to go to law school if you originally started working in
advertising and brand management?

- It was a personal choice, she worked for 8 years before going to law school at NYU
- Foundation for entertainment industry is legal

- Follow through with your plan
- Think about the work you will be doing not where it will be
- Develop your skills within your legal practice
- Inhouse- 1 client Company- Many
- When helping with sports teams- think about issues they face
Think about law field; labor agreements , cba agreement, teams/ venue
agreements, corporate law, real estate, taxation, intellectual property (broad
area)
- Get into the best law school while you can
- Not every firm is going to have experience in a particular area
- MORE EXPERIENCE=MORE OPPORTUNITIES
- Home your skills in society to determine where you want to work
- When you’re trying to be really good to make time to get up and talk to people,
and go to networking events. Networking is crucial to being successful in this
industry
- Good to share your vision and share your career
- Most relationships are informal
- *Don’t be complacent
- *Stay in touch with people

Preparing for the LSAT:


- First time self trained (okay)
- 2nd Kaplan (taught her a lot of tricks) * recommended

*Talk to some people and look for other providers to prepare for the LSAT
* Helps to take a class
