11.(b) A concentrated load of 1000 kN is applied at the ground surface. Compute the vertical pressure (i) at
a depth of 4 m below the load, (ii) at a distance of 3 m at the same depth. Use Boussinesq's equation
12.(a) A square footing located at a depth of 1.3m below the ground has to carry a safe load of 800KN. find
the size of the footing .If the desired F.S is 3.The soil has the following properties e=0.55, G=2.67,
C=8KN/m², ø=30º, Sr=50%. Using Terzaghi’s Analysis. Nq=22.5, Nγ=19.7, Nc=37.2

12.(b) Plate load tests were conducted in a c-φ soil on plates of two different sizes and the following
results were obtained.
Find the size of square footing to carry a load of 800KN at the same specified settlement of 25mm

15.(a) Describe the procedure used for auger boring with neat sketch.

16.(a) A ring footing of external diameter 8 m and internal diameter 4 m rests at a depth 2 m below the
ground surface. It carries a load intensity of 150 kN/m2. Find the vertical stress at depths of 2,4 and 8 m
along the axis of the footing below the footing base. Neglect the effect of the excavation on the stress.
(Or)
16.(b) Three parallel strip footings 3 m wide each and 5 m apart center to center transmit contact pressures
of 200, 150 and 100 kN/m2 respectively. Calculate the vertical stress due to the combined loads beneath the
centers of each footing at a depth of 3 m below the base. Assume the footings are placed at a depth of 2 m
below the ground surface. Use Boussinesq's method for line loads.
17.(a) . A strip footing 2.0 m wide carries a load intensity of 400 kN/m2 at a depth of 1.2 m in sand .the
saturated unit weight of sand is 19.5 KN/m3 and unit weight above water table is 16.8 kN/m3 the shear
strength parameters are C=0 & Ф = 350. Determine the factor of safety with respect to shear failure for the
following cases of location of water table
(Or)
17.(b) Design a strip footing to carry a load of 750 KN/m at a depth of 1.6 m in a c- Ф soil having a unit
weight of 18 KN/m3 and shear strength parameters as C=20 kN/m3 and Ф = 250 determine the width of
footing ,using a partial factor of safety of 2.5 against shear failure. Use Terzaghi’s analysis. For Ф = 250.
Nc=25.1 , Nq=12.7, Nr=9.7.
(Or)
18.(b) Design of friction pile group to carry a load of 3000KN including the weight of pile cap at a site
where the soil is uniform clay to a depth of 20 m, underlain by rock. Average unconfined compressive
strength of clay is 70 KN/m2. The clay may be assumed to be of normal sensitivity and normally loaded,
with liquid limit 60%. A factor of safety of 3 is required against shear failure. Take NC=9

20.(a) Describe the procedure used for wash boring with neat sketch.

20.(b) State and explain Dynamic cone penetration test?
