• The culture of the Philippines is influenced by both the East and the
West. The culture of the Philippines comprises a blend of traditional
Filipino and Spanish Catholic traditions, with influences from America
and other parts of Asia.

 Now and then in Marriage


Traditional Courtship. “Uso pa ba ang harana?” Aside from harana, we
can hardly see the other inherent traditions of Filipino courtship such as paninilbihan.
MARRIAGE is a sacred to the Filipinos.
The culture of the Philippines in regards to marriage gives us a certain identity or
adds to something in who we are. The traditions that they hold represent how you
follow Philippines’ values, beliefs, customs and their way of life.
BEFORE:
• The ceremony is held in the tribal priest/priestess’ home where he/she
would bless them or should be done in a church.
• Starts off by formally asking the parents of the woman for her hand.
• the groom offers a dowry to the bride’s family for taking care of
her since she was little
• The wedding dress is originally baro’t saya and barong
• In older Filipino traditions, the couple must abstain from sex during
their wedding night

 Transportation now and then


The concept of land transportation system in the Philippines started when our
ancestors invented the means of locomotion with the animals in moving people and
goods from place to place. Prior to the introduction of horses and wheeled vehicles
by Spanish colonizers, our ancestors moved by raft or native outrigger boat powered
by paddles and sails, hopping from island to island or coastal point to point.

 Calesa -- Known as a horse-drawn carriage, calesas were introduced by


the Spanish in the 18th century when they colonized the islands.
 Jeepneys - are the most popular mode of public transportation in
the Philippines, they have also become a ubiquitous symbol of
the Philippine culture.

 Traditional Games

Traditional Filipino games are the game that are usually played by the Filipino
children with great use of the native materials. Fun and very exciting which is only
found in the Philippines.
"Larong pinoy" is a term for Filipino games.
