Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to

CO1 :: Examine the organization and systems framework of health services in India.

CO2 :: Describe and compare the organizational elements, structure and delivery modalities of
healthcare systems.

CO3 :: Analyze administrative and clinical information technology and decision support tools in
process and performance improvements

Unit I
Healthcare in India : Role of Central Government, Healthcare Infrastructure, Healthcare services in
different states in India, Development of Helathcare services in Rural India, Public Private Partnership
in Healthcare Sector
Unit II
Health Administration and Planning : Historical Development of Healthcare System,
Characteristics of Healthcare, Primary Healthcare, Health Planning, Committees and their
Recommendations, Health Programmes and Five Year Plans
Unit III
National Health Programmes in India and its Implementation : Understanding National Health
Plan and its recommendations., Disease control programmes (roles & objectives) including National
Anti-Malaria Program, National Leprosy Eradication program, Revised National Tuberculosis Control
Program, National AIDS Control Program, Universal Immunization Program, National Cancer Control
Program, National Program on Control on Blindness, Reproductive Child Health(RCH)
Unit IV
International Perspectives on Healthcare : World Health Organisation, Community Health
Organisation, World Bank, United Nations Children's Fund(UNICEF), United States Agency for
International Development, Project Hope, United Nations High Commissioner Refugees, Food and
Agriculture Organisation, Red Cross, Medecins Sans Frontieres, Child and Adolescent Resources and
Education, Medical Tourism in India, Understanding the role and responsibilities of various
International bodies i.e.UNFPA,UNDP,FAO,ILO.
Unit V
Management of the Hospital : Planning: Forecasting; Strategic and operational planning,
Committees; Effective planning, Importance of Decision Making in Hospitals, The hospital budget,
Management activities of a hospital,Organisation structure/process chart of hospital,Understanding
functions of corporate multi-speciality hospital,Duties and responsibilities of various components of
organisation hierarchy members,Routine admission and discharge process,Discharge
summary,Hospital utilisation indices,Daily reports,Medical certificates,Consent forms,Patient
satisfaction and grievance handling mechanism,Duty roster of various staff.
Unit VI
Future trends in healthcare : Public relations in hospitals, Health Informatics and Electronic Medical
Record, Health sector reforms, Nanotechnology in Healthcare, mHealth Revolution, Social media - The
new health exchange, Foreign Direct Investment(FDI), Green hospital.
