Fury F3 Flight Controller Introduction

The Fury F3 Flight controller has been designed from the ground up by quad pilots & builders
who want a better flight controller. We have taken into account all of the things that we like
about other flight controller hardware and wish that other flight controllers featured and
combined them into a board that is well designed for ease of installation and use.

Good soldering skills are required to use the Fury F3 Flight controller. We recommend that if
you do not have proficient soldering skills that you find someone in your area to help you with
your build. MultiGP is a good place to find like-minded quad builders. Go to MultiGP.com for
more info.

Board Features:
• F3 processor (allows you to run high loop times and gives you 3x dedicated UART outputs
for things such as GPS, OSDs, Telemetry, etc.)
• MPU6000 gyro- This is a favorite gyro amongst many FPV pilots at the time of writing. It’s
low noise floor and high reliability rate makes it a top choice which is why it is on this flight
controller.
• Large Solder Pads on edge of board
• USB connector
• Spectrum Receiver connector port (additional connector is recommended but not required
if using Spektrum Hardware.
• 3v3 output for I2C connections
• Buzzer connection availability
• Led connection availability
• Current sensor connections availability
• RSSI Connection availability.
• Barometer is optional at the time of writing.
• Designed for Betaflight, there is no Cleanflight Target.

Initial Testing and Warranty

We will only warranty boards that have not been soldered. Your board has been fully bench
tested prior to shipping. Before soldering or installing the board, it is highly recommended that
you do the following to ensure there was no damage due to shipping. If any of these tests do no
pass, please contact your supplier for a replacement.

1. If you have a multimeter available, do a quick check for continuity between 5v and GND
pads. If you are unsure how to do this, visit www.furyflightcontrol.com under support for a video.

2. Connect the board via USB to the Betaflight Configurator. Check for proper movement of the
gyro.

3. Connect a 5v source to a 5v pad on the controller. Check that the board boots.

Firmware Warning
There is one issue that is Betaflight 2.9.1 firmware related (see below) on the board that you
must be aware of. If you do not have an SDCard in the slot, you MUST wait at least 16 seconds
before arming the board to fly. If you do not, the board will fly out of control.

This has been fixed in Betaflight 3.0.0 RC and will be incorporated in the final release as well.

Background on this issue: As mentioned above, this is not hardware related. All other boards
with SDCard slot exhibit the same behavior (<=2.9.1) as the FuryF3. The firmware looks for the
SDCard on boot up. If the card is not found by the firmware, it waits 2 seconds and looks again,
then waits 2 seconds, etc. It does this 8 times. During this time, the flight controller is pretty
much locked up, but may possibly be armed. If armed and attempted to fly during this time, it
WILL fly uncontrollably endangering you or others.

Available Solutions:
1. Always fly with an SDCard in the Slot.
2. Wait at least 16 seconds after applying battery power before arming the board.
3. Download and flash the Betaflight 3.0.0 RC firmware. It flies beautifully!!

You can find the latest version of Betaflight here: https://github.com/betaflight/betaflight/releases

Basic installation
Hardware setup
Required Connections

Connecting your receiver.

The Fury F3 is compatible with many different receiver protocols. These protocols include:
• PPM
• SBUS
• Spektrum Serial Connection

The board has no support for PWM inputs, so you will have to use a radio receiver capable of
Sbus or PPM to fly with the FuryF3.
If using an SBus receiver, we recommend using the unlabeled through-hole pins to connect your
receiver to the
board.

These pins are

strategically
placed so that
you can solder
straight pins to
the through holes
in the board and
connect a
standard 3 wire
servo wire
between the
board and your
receiver.

The board is
featured with an
SBUS inverter, so
there is no need
to run an external
signal inverter when using Sbus capable receiver hardware such as the Frsky X4R-SB.

If you have a ppm receiver, then you should connect it’s signal wire to the PPM pad and use the
ground and 5V pads to power the receiver. These pins are strategically placed so that you can
solder straight edge launch pins to the board you can connect a standard 3 wire servo wire
between the board and your receiver.

You must select your receiver protocol and port in Betaflight

after connecting your receiver to the flight controller

Connect ESCs
Connect the corresponding ESC signal wires to pads S1, S2,
S3, and S4 as detailed on page 2.
Ground wires should be connected to the individual ground
pads underneath the board either individually or together.

We can not stress enough the importance of connecting

your ESC grounds to the flight controller. Connecting
ESC grounds can help eliminate many difficult to
diagnose problems in your build by providing the ESC
with a clean ground reference which is imperative for the
proper operation of your quadcopter.

Powering the board

The board requires a 5V filtered power supply from a BEC or power distribution board. Connect
5V from a clean power source to any of the pads labeled 5v on the Fury F3 flight controller.

The accelerometer and gyroscope need to initialize every time the board is given power.
• Do not move the Fury F3 board or your quad while powering on.
• Wait until the initialization sequence is completed. When the activity LEDs become still, you
can move the quad/board.

There is no reverse voltage protection included on this board so double-check your polarity
before plugging it in. The use of a current limiter is recommended. There is no warranty
offered in the event of a reverse polarity situation.

Warning- only power the board with one power source. Connecting multiple BECs to the board
can lead to undesired operation.

Powering with a Pololu Regulator

The FuryF3 requires 5V of power as mentioned above one way to power the FuryF3 is with the
use of a Pololu regulator, www.pololu.com. You will want a step down regulator to 5V, with
power of at least 500 mAh and up. If you plan to run the FC, camera, video transmitter, and an
Minimim OSD, you would need at least 2.5A. If you plan to run just the FC you will need a
minimum of 500. To power
additional WS2811/Ws2812
programmable LED's you will
need to add 60 mAh per LED, ie
a strip of 5 LEDS would require
300 additional mAh.

The holes on the regulator line

up with the 4 holes across the
top of the board. You can slide
the Pololu regulator under the
board and solder directly, or use
header pins. Vin is the hole in
the positive lead from your
battery connects. GND is the
ground from you battery. The
Vout pin is 5V from the Pololu
regulator that is now powering
the board. The SHDN hole
stands for shutdown, and
depending on your regulator this
may need to be bridged to the
VIN hole.

Vbat Connection
To connect to the Vbat sensors so Betaflight can send low voltage alerts or other features, you
have 2 options. The first option is mentioned above by connecting a Pololu regulator and the
leads from the battery to it. If you are not using a Pololu regulator then connect the + from the
battery PDB to the Vin hole and the - form the battery PDB to the GND hole. We recommend
checking for no continuity between the and positive or 5V pad to any GND or ground point on
the controller once this step is complete. This is the easiest way to short your board with the
pins so close.
