Victimology - Victimology, then, is the study of the etiology (or causes) of victimization, its consequences,

how the criminal justice system accommodates and assists victims, and how other elements of society,
such as the media, deal with crime victims.

Victimology, branch of criminology that scientifically studies the relationship between an injured party and
an offender by examining the causes and the nature of the consequent suffering. Specifically, victimology
focuses on whether the perpetrators were complete strangers, mere acquaintances, friends, family
members, or even intimates and why a particular person or place was targeted. Criminal victimization may
inflict economic costs, physical injuries, and psychological harm.

Every crime must be considered in two parts-the physical act of the crime (actus reus) and the mental
intent to do the crime (mens rea). ... Actus reus is commonly defined as a criminal act that was the result of
voluntary bodily movement. This describes a physical activity that harms another person or damages
property.

Mens rea is the intent a person has behind committing a crime. ... Actus reus is the action the person takes
to perform the criminal act. This is the physical action behind the crime.
