5. Improving school climate for better quality
educational management (Hadiyanto Syahril)
Summary: This article highlights school climate
improvement for better quality educational
management. School climate is defined as a
situation formed by a relationship between the
principal and teachers, teachers and teachers,

school and distinguishes a school from others. The
school climate is believed to be has an influence
and will determine the success of teaching and
learning process in school. So, when the school
principal wants to improve her educational
management, he or she has to make better school
climate through common stages namely

discussion, intervention, and finally reassessment.
Last semester, I was handling a maximum of
50 students in my class. Keeping their attention
was very hard. Each had his/her own demands.
Textbooks were limited, and there were only one
or two electric fans in every classroom. In short, the
environment was not conducive for learning.
Thanks to information technology my work
became not so difficult. With the aid of digital
technologies, I was able to keep and maintain their
attention in my class. I could not imagine my job
without using this technology.
In public school, there are a lot of paper
works to be submitted, and most of the
transactions involve computers. Nowadays,
illiterate in information technology means a
problem. As a classroom teacher, I could not really
do my work efficiently and effectively in the
absence of information technology.
Education, for me, encompasses everything.
It should not remain in the four corners of the
classrooms. It has to go out and build social justice
not only in school but also in society.
Building social justice is a call of duty. Yes, it
is true that school as an institution, is a catalyst for
change. But, for me it is not enough. Teachers
should do something concrete for social justice. As
a teacher, I should not remain silent about
corruption, discrimination, injustices, human
rights violation, and among others. I have to be
involved in overcoming the harm done to my
country.
I have been teaching in private school for four
years. One thing I really missed in private school is
the school climate. Though there I received only a
small amount of salary but I am happy. I missed my
friends, our relationships, our laughters, etc.
School climate plays a crucial role in
determining success of teaching and learning
process in school. One of the important aspects of
school climate is relationship. Teachers should
build healthy relationships with their superiors,
students, and stakeholders. For me, healthy
relationship would result to better quality
education.
I was in the public school just this year.
Completely aware of the importance of school
climate, if I want to improve my performance in
school, I have to build healthy relationship with my
co-teachers, with my superiors, and with my
students.
