Final term

Problem Solving. Use proper significant figure and unit of measurement. Show complete
solution, and enclosed final answer in a box. Otherwise, all answers will
not be accepted.

1. A particle is moving along a straight line with the acceleration a = (12t – 3t1/2) ft/s2,
where t is in seconds. Determine the velocity and the position of the particle as a function
of time. When t = 0, v = 0 and s = 15 ft.

2. The crate has a mass of 150 kg and rests on a surface for which the coefficients of static
and kinetic friction are μs = 0.3 and μk = 0.2, respectively. If the motor M supplies a cable
force of F= (8t2 + 20) N, where t is in seconds, determine the power output developed by
the motor when t = 5 s.

3. Assume Young’s modulus for bone is 1.50 x 1010 N/m2. The bone breaks if stress greater
than 1.50 x 108 N/m2 is imposed on it. (a) What is the maximum force that can be
exerted on the femur bone in the leg if it has a minimum effective diameter of 2.50 cm?
(b) If this much force is applied compressively, by how much does the 25.0-cm-long bone
shorten?
