Take Home Assignment

These are the items that I commonly use to reduce the traces of waste in everyday life.
They may be simple, but the important thing is that I get to help the environment in my own way
because one makes up a multitude of people that are the agents for change.

For the first one, it is a pair of spoon and fork. It is what I use to eat when I go out, so that
I don’t need to use unnecessary plastic utensils. It is better for the environment in a way that
every time I go out to eat in fast food restaurant chains or in the canteen, I don’t have to throw
away multiple plastic spoons and forks for each period that I need to eat. If I manage to eat three
times a day, I won’t have to throw away three pairs of plastic eating utensils which adds to the
stockpile of plastic garbage that we already have. Same goes for the tumbler because when I
need to drink, I no longer have to worry about finding a disposable cup or buy water contained
in PET bottles. For the last item, it is called an eco-bag. I use it mainly when grocery shopping to
replace plastic bags and also because I need something sturdier than paper to contain heavy
groceries. Our local supermarket called JC Plaza implemented the use of eco-bags ever since the
plastic ban was regulated in our area. The eco-bag reduces the use of plastic bags that are harmful
for the environment because when not disposed of properly, it can contaminate bodies of water
and soil that is destructive for the environment.

Even if it’s seemingly insignificant, being mindful of the little things that we can do for the
environment can go a long way. It is important to build a habit of using eco-friendly items so that
we can alleviate our ongoing waste crisis and to help the environment. We cannot further refuse
to see that a waste crisis is here in our country.
