Describing and Comparing Data

Students in the Design and Faculty of Business Departments took a course

titled ‘communication at work’. However, there were numerous problems
found with the course and so a survey was conducted to discover areas that
needed improvement.
Table 1 shows data that were collected from Design and Faculty of Business
students.
Decide which is the most important data in the table and then write the
Findings section.

Describing and Comparing:

Put one suitable word into each gap. The first letter is given for you.

2. Findings
Table 1 shows the seven a___________________ (1) that students from the Faculty
of Business (FoB) and Design departments were surveyed. Out of the seven
aspects, five are a c___________________ (2) for concern and will be discussed in
more detail below.
2.1 Assessment and Career Relevance
The findings i___________________ (3) that while a high proportion of Faculty of
Business students were s___________________(4) with the usefulness of the
assessment tasks, less than h___________________(5) of the design students
were satisfied. A s___________________ (6) result was found in the relevance of
the course to students’ future career. One r___________________(7) behind this
could have been that the assessment tasks and course were more
s___________________(8) for FoB students who often go into quite specific
careers, w___________________(9) design students regularly lead diverse
professions after graduation.
2.2 Course Materials
In c___________________ (10) to the above factors, just o___________________
(11) one third of FoB students e___________________ (12) satisfaction with the
quality of course materials c___________________ (13) to nearly all design
students. This was probably d___________________ (14) to the materials having
lots of visual aids w___________________ (15) designers find more appealing than
those from a FoB background.
2.3 Workload and Difficulty Level
Two aspects that n___________________(16) design students nor FoB students
found s___________________(17) were the level of difficulty of the course and
course workload, with only one f___________________(18) of design students
expressing c___________________(19) with the level of difficulty, and less than one
third of FoB students being happy with the course workload.
S___________________ (20), around two thirds of both sets of students were
disgruntled with the course workload. The problem with the level of difficultly
c___________________ (21) have been due to the course following a syllabus
similar to secondary school, while course workload is always
p___________________ (22) as students have lots of other coursework to do.
