Aims of the Assessment (Course Descriptor June 2012)


 To provide an understanding of the key principles, practices and concepts of
project management.

 To examine the broad project environment and apply project management tools
and techniques to a simulated project.

Learning Outcomes to be assessed


On completion of this coursework, students are expected to be able to:

 Establish the key project planning and control activities and apply the planning
and control tools and techniques in a project environment.

 Examine the project lifecycle and its relationship with project activities and
processes.

 Discuss the 5 key variable of project management: cost, time, quality, scope and
risk and the trade−offs and interaction between these variables.

 Establish the change management procedures and processes required for


effective project management.

Assessment

Project Dossier - 60% (of final grade)


The project to be developed an reported about should meet the following parameters:

 Imaginary Project

 Budget CHF 2M

 Scope 200-300 Staff

 12M long

Assessment Deliverables

1. Project Plan - Dossier (printed and bind)


 40-50 Pages (Annexes not included)
 Professionally presented print and bind
 Submission Date: January 27th.2014
 The team/s submit their final Project Dossier document on the day of the final
presentation.

2. Presentation (PPT), In English


 25-35 Slides

The Project Dossier documentation should include:

• A structured content (according to the content list next slide)


• A solid business case based on solid PM principles understanding, and research
• Verbally understood and visually appealing documentation
• Use of a business oriented language and vocabulary
• Business-Professional formatted document
• Cited resources and founded research

Project Dossier - structure


Based on the course text book - PAINLESS PROJECT MANAGEMENT A Step-by-Step
Guide for Planning, Executing, and Managing Projects, Mc Ghee & Mc Aliney, John
Wiley & Sons.
The content should include the following chapters:

 The Project Dossier should not exceed 40-50 A4 pages
 Recommended format: minimum of 2cm margins, font size 12pt 1.5 Line spacing
 All rest material (articles, research results, statistical data, resources, complex
graphic, interviews plans etc.) should be included in the annexes and should
serve the purpose of supporting the Project Dossier’s content and assumptions

Presentation - 40% (of final grade)


Final Group presentation –
 A coherent presentation of a project analytical planning and the plan of bringing it
to the market
 Convincing and unified group presentation
 Demonstrated understanding of project management fundamentals
 Providing a justification for the financing and risk benefit trade-offs
 Visually appealing and smart use of charts and graphic to describe and support
complex business data or processes

Presentation – Structure
 Based on the project dossier
 The power point presentation should contain 25-35 slides
 It must be tested prior to the final presentation on the class’s projection
equipment
 The group presentation should explain and reflect the Project Concept and
business case.
 The structure of the presentation is free, however it is highly advisable to
generally adapt the Project Dossier’s (Above) structure as mentioned before.
 Please keep in mind that presentations should be short, concise and less
comprehensive than the Project Dossier.

Please notice:
 Failure to meet the final Project Dossier submission deadline on June16th 2014,
will be penalized
 Version discrepancies or incomplete submitted final documents will be penalize
 Unjustified absence of one of the team’s members will result in an F for the
particular individual
