Adobe Photoshop Review

With millions of images being captured and uploaded to the internet every day,

one cannot tell what is genuine and what is not. People tend to alter their images

whether they alter their appearance or add additional images onto their original. There

are various programs out there that people use to modify their pictures, but the most

known application is called Adobe Photoshop. Numerous versions exist of Photoshop;

however, they all still accomplish the same goal. Adobe Photoshop is a great choice for

an individual's innovative needs because it has many great features, it can edit photos

and videos, and it has a friendly user interface.

Over the years, the production team at Adobe has implemented various new

features into Photoshop. On October of twenty-eighteen, Photoshop introduced a new

tool called “Content Aware Fill” (Adobe). The content aware tool allows a person to

remove any unwanted objects in a picture or fill in some missing spots. For example, if a

person was to take a picture of themselves but they have a stain on their shirt, they can

easily use the content-aware tool and remove the stain from the image. Using the

content-aware property is better in Photoshop than its competitors because Photoshop

has more flexibility. It is easier to target objects in Photoshop than other applications

and it makes the process that much quicker. Also, photoshop has an additional three-

dimensional workspace alongside the main image-editing section. Even though it may

not be the best tool to use out there yet, it is very convenient for a creator to have this at

the ready. For instance, an individual may be trying to create a three-dimensional room

for a client, but the pictures that they need to use need a little bit of retouching. So, they

can retouch the pictures in the image-editing side of photoshop and then easily carry it

over to the 3d workspace and get to work. Having multiple features and workspaces at

hand is key to the creative process of a designer.

In Photoshop, a creator also has the ability to edit photos and videos which gives

a huge advantage to the user. When a video is dragged into photoshop, it is treated as a

layer just as any other picture would be. This means that anything that can be done to a

picture can be applied to a video and there is no limit to how many effects a person can

add. Even though this may not be an ideal video editing workstation, it is a beneficial

tool to have and can be useful in a few situations. Suppose that a person is working on a

video for a client, but they need to use certain tools that can only be found in Photoshop.

The creator would easily be able to import the video into the Photoshop workspace and

start working instead of having to go through the trouble of finding another application

to use. Also, Photoshop has various formats and resolutions for people to choose from

when exporting their projects. Having multiple choices for exporting videos is great

because there is not a universal media format. Michael Muchmore, a Lead Software

Analyst, believes that "Photoshop's Export options are richer than ever, and the

performance is better, too."(Muchmore). Michael is talking about the fact that features

such as Airdrop on a Mac computer are now available on the newest version of

Photoshop. On the other hand, other ways to export on a Windows Operating System

would be to use My People or email. Nevertheless, every year Adobe adds new features

to Photoshop and it helps make editing photos and videos effortless and more efficient.

Compared to other applications, the user interface of Photoshop is a friendly and

easy to learn experience. When the program is first opened, a home screen pops up and

it gives the option to “find out about new features, connect to learning content, and

jump right to your open documents” (Adobe). If another app were to be opened similar

to Photoshop like Gimp, another photo-editing program, there is no welcome screen and

you are just faced with all the tools in front of you. Adobe has various tutorials that show

how to work Photoshop, but the application is really straightforward and self-

explanatory. The toolbar is on the left side of the screen and once a cursor hovered over

any tool, a small description pops up along with a video of the tool being in use. By

doing this, new users can learn how to use a tool faster and have a better experience

playing around in Photoshop. Adobe tries to make its interface look as less intimidating

as possible and they are doing a good job at it.

With Photoshop updating every single year, the application gets better every

time. The fact that it adds new features every update to help give their users the best

experience they can have is great. Since Adobe first released Photoshop in 1990, many

great improvements have been made giving the user an incentive to use their program

over any other editing program out there.
