1. Anatomy of the drum set - Anatomy of the drum set is drum tuning.

Recommended for older kids or those in the advance level especially those who
have their own drum set. No matter how good and steady a drummer is, if the
drums are not in tune, he/she would sound awful. This is a good training for the
ears as well. A good drummer knows how to keep the drums in tune! Anatomy of
Drum set is also the learning of the different kinds of drumheads. Their pros and
cons. How to change drum heads, tune the drumheads and basic care and
maintenance of the drums, cymbals & hardware. Know all the parts of the drums
and different kinds of cymbals including the materials being used.
2. Proper posture and stick grip - Let the student explore both match grip and
traditional grip. A schooled drummer should be able to do both even if he/she
prefers one over the other! Advance students may learn double pedals and other
foot accessories. Correct basic footwork should be taught from the start.
3. Stick control - Stick control is the learning of dynamics. Rudiments single
strokes, double strokes etc., should be played and learned in different tempos as
well as soft and loud. Basic rudiments should be introduced. For beginners focus
on single strokes and depending on their progress, move on to double strokes.
Advance students should learn other rudiments such as paradiddles, flams,
ratamacue, etc. ALWAYS PRACTICE THESE RUDIMENTS WITH A
METRONOME or a background music and follow the beat.
4. Different types of grooves & music style (for advanced students) - Explore all
types of music. It's ok to have a favorite type but knowing and understanding
different styles creates a complete musician.

extension of your hands. They are tools to paint sound. Students should be
introduced to the different tools available in order to create different sounds.
Learning to how and when to use mallets, rods and brushes are as important as
playing with the sticks. Playing the brushes along requires different technique
and approach.
