 Realization about Jose Rizal’s annotation of Sucesos De Las Islas

Filipinas

- While reading the summary of Antonio Morga’s book entitled

Sucesos De Las Islas Filipinas, I realized that our country; the
Philippines has its own identity and culture. Morga wanted to
convey to all of us especially the Filipino people that our country
really existed on earth on earth even before the coming of the
Spaniards. Our ancestors, the natives had their antiquity, customs
and government even during and after the Spanish colonization
period.

Dr. Jose Rizal annotated Morga’s book because we all know that
he is an earnest seeker of truth and this marked him as a
historian, he also had a burning desire to know the conditions of
our country when the Spaniards came ashore to the islands. Dr.
Rizal was inspired by his friend, Ferdinand Blumentritt to
annonate Morga’s Sucesos de Las Islas Filipinas.

Dr. Jose Rizal wanted to prove through his annotations that the
Philippines is much more than what the Spaniards think of.
Filipinos deserve to be recognized as an independent nation and
not just one of the countries Spaniards tried to conquer.
