Reflection paper: Ang lihim ng pamilyang Rizal

The documentary video that presented to our class discusses about the hidden or
secrets that happened in Rizal’s family. It gave emphasis mainly to his mother’s side of the
family, Teodora Alonzo’s clan. In 1896, before he died he made a family tree mostly contained
only by the members of his father’s family, but he left the braches that leads to the Alonzos.
The film focused on two issues: the mansion (which was Alonzo’s ancestral house) in binan
being demolished, and the narration of the clash that was happening inside the Alonzo family.

This documentary gave me thought that problems or issues like this occur normally.
Even our well-known hero experience this type of occurrences in their family, I thought to
myself that this obstacles and problems are not an excuse because our Rizal made himself a
national hero redeemed himself as an idol to the revolution even with that kind of issues
occurring to his family. If Rizal still fulfilled his duty and his destiny as a hero and a revolutionary
writer without being affected by this issues, we should be too. Our personal problems or
toward others shouldn’t be an obstacle in continuing our lives’ journey.

This makes me also claim that such as these stories or accounts should be ignored for it
is considered to be as a conspiracy or a gossip that is being rumored by influential people and
documentaries. If it is a need in studying or learning history of Rizal we have a duty to consider
factual events and reliable sources as our basis in our studies. Journals, books, libraries should
be the only thing considered in checking our sources in studying greatest people in or past like
Rizal.
