ps1 Turnaround Addition Facts
ps1 Turnaround Addition Facts
Demonstrate an understanding of addition of numbers with answers to 20 and their corresponding subtraction
facts, concretely, pictorially and symbolically, by:
• using familiar mathematical language to describe additive and subtractive actions
• creating and solving problems in context that involve addition and subtraction
• modelling addition and subtraction, using a variety of concrete and visual representations, and recording the
process symbolically. [C, CN, ME, PS, R, V]
ASSESSMENTS
Pre-assessment (prior Formative: Summative (if applicable):
knowledge) (if applicable): Workbooks will be checked
before lesson completion
Introduction(time: 5min)
Hook/Attention Grabber: Instructor will prompt students to recall their work with flip flop,
change and drop. Instructor will model example equation on the board.
Transitioning from Hook to Body: Instructor and Good Apple will hand out workbooks.
Learning Activity #1: Instructor will guide the students through the first couple questions by
doing them together as a class. Students will then go through the remainder of their sheet by
themselves. Instructor should clarify that it is silent work time and that if they have any
questions, students should raise their hand. Instructor will circulate and check workbooks
before they move onto game. Instructor will pull names for partners while students work.
Learning Activity #2: Instructor should tell students that they will be going into partners for
the same game as the previous lesson. Instructor should remind students that they will be
sitting shoulder to shoulder with their partner, reading buddy style, and rolling one ten-sided
dice, with one game sheet between the two people.
Feedback From Students on Learning: Instructor should circulate and observe whether
students are understanding the turnaround facts.
Transition To Next Lesson(s): Students should have one more roll each, and then submit
their sheet to the take home pile and prepare for sneaky recess by getting dressed in their
outside clothes and lining up at the door.
