trapezoid.
An Isosceles trapezoid is a trapezoid in which
two angles adjacent to a base are equal.

Activity 5: Explain and prove theorem 1 of an
Isosceles Trapezoid

a. Teacher explains and prove theorem 1 of an

isosceles trapezoid. Students hear the explanation

In an isosceles Trapezoid, two legs are equal.

Given : Isosceles trapezoid ABCD with
AB//𝐶𝐷
Prove : AD = BC

AD intersect BC at O (Suppose AB<CD)

Trapezoid ABCD is isosceles,
so ∠𝐷 = ∠𝐶, ∠𝐴1 = ∠𝐵1
We have ∠𝐷 = ∠𝐶

𝑠𝑜 ∆𝑂𝐶𝐷 𝑖𝑠 𝑖𝑠𝑜𝑠𝑐𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑠

(𝑡𝑤𝑜 𝑏𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑎𝑙),

𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑂𝐷 = 𝑂𝐶 … (1)

We have ∠𝐴1 = ∠𝐵1 , so ∠𝐴2 = ∠𝐵2 , hence

∆𝑂𝐴𝐵 is isosceles (two base angles equal)
Therefore 𝑂𝐴 = 𝑂𝐵 … (2)
From (1) and (2) we have OD - OA = OC –
OB, so AD = BC
AD//CD, Then AD=BC

question.

Activity 6: Explain and prove theorem 2 of an

isosceles trapezoid

a. Teacher explains theorem 2 of an isosceles

Students hear the explanation
trapezoid.
Two diagonals of an Isosceles Trapezoid are
equal.
Given : Isosceles Trapezoid ABCD with
AB//𝐶𝐷
Prove : AC = BD
b. Teacher asks the students to prove theorem 2 Students prove the theorem 2
of an isosceles trapezoid. Given : Isosceles Trapezoid ABCD
with AB//𝐶𝐷

Prove : AC = BD

∆ADC and ∆𝐵𝐶𝐷

ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 common side CD

∠𝐴𝐷𝐶 = ∠𝐵𝐶𝐷

(𝑏𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑒𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓

𝑖𝑠𝑜𝑠𝑐𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑝𝑒𝑧𝑜𝑖𝑑)

AD = BC (legs of isosceles
Trapezoid)

Therefore,

∆𝐴𝐷𝐶 = ∆𝐵𝐶𝐷 (𝑠, 𝑏, 𝑠), hence

AC = BD

c. Teacher gives students the opportunity to ask Students asks some questions
