Dear Mr. Gent:

We were ldvised that the Amv contacted you directly by telephone

to lot you know the last changes to "Commando" still left objections
and tho: the Navy forwarded a note turning down assistance. Conse-
quently, we thought you would want an official DOD letter for your
records that the script did not qualify for anprovnl and assistance
could not be authorized.
when you asked us to withhold sending the negative reply to your
original request while you revised the script, I stated the belief that
the only possible way to overcome the objections would be to delete the
military completely, except perhaps for the last sequence. He suggested
for that sequence to check with the FBI for a recommendation on how the
government might arrest the foreign force about to depart the ms. to
take over the fictional country.
The last changes still included the general and death of his staff
officer. and also the military or implied military connection with the
commando group. As for the Navy. we felt certain thst they would not
consider it in their interest to participate in the sequence showing
target firing on the California island.

We look forward to being able to consider future production: the:
