Subject : joining course plan
Dear Jody,
Thanks for e-mail that you sent a week ago. Sorry for writing back so late because I’ve been very busy from
all school’s assignment. There is so much to do because the new semester has just started. It is interesting
to read about your plan in joining a course to improve your English this semester. If you don’t mind I would
like to suggest you a course to join. It is Oak Tree, a homey education centre. It’s place not only to improve
your skill in English but also to have a music lesson. You can have English and a music lesson in one place,
as I know you have good talent in language and music. If you want to know more about it, I am ready to
take you there. Just contact me!
Sincerely
Wildan

Text for questions number 22 - 24
Rosa Parks
On December 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks said “No!” to a white man. The
white man was a bus driver. He asked Rosa Parks to move to the back of the bus because another
white man wanted to sit down. Rosa Parks was a black woman. She had worked all day and she
was tired. So, when the bus driver told her to move, she decided to say no.
The police came and took Rosa Parks to jail. Black people in Montgomery, Alabama became
angry about this. So, they started a bus “boycott.” The bus company lost a lot of money because
black people in Montgomery wouldn’t ride the buses. The bus boycott lasted 381 days. It was in
newspapers all over America. Rosa Parks became a national hero.
Rosa Parks had been working for a long time to help black people before the police put her in
jail. She was a secretary for a black organization in America called the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). She worked with black children in poor neighborhoods,
too. She had been shouted at by white bus drivers before. But, on December 1, when Rosa Parks
said “No!” to the white bus driver, the Civil Rights Movement in America began.
Rosa Parks resided in Detroit until she died at the age of 92 on October 24, 2005.
In the jungle, once there was a fierce lion who killed many animals. The survivors decided that if they
were not to suffer the same fate something must be done. The king of the jungle would have to make do with
one meal a day. In return to save him the effort of hunting, each day’s victim would come to the lion of his own
accord.
Things went on like this until it came to the turn of a cunning, old hare. Off he went to the lion, gasping
as if he has just run a long way.
‘On my way here,’ he said,’I was attacked by a lion. If I can not run fast, I would never have escaped.’
‘Another lion?’ The king of the jungle roared angrily at very idea of a rival. ‘Where is he?’
‘At the pool. He is big and young, stronger and braver than you.’
‘We’ll see about that. Take me to him.’
So the lion followed the hare to the pool and there, as he leaned over the edge, he saw another lion in
the water below. He attacked it immediately…. And that was how an old hare beated the cruel tyrant. And that
is why there is a proverb which says: ‘Cunning is more powerful than brute strength’.

When I was a boy, I liked swimming very much. One year my two brothers and I spent the summer
holidays with my uncle and aunt in their house by the sea. It was only twenty yards from the water. Every day
we put on our swimming-shorts before breakfast, ran down to sea across the sand and jumped in. From then
until late at night, we were in the sea or on the beach most of the time. When my aunt rang a bell, we went
back to the house for food, but we ate it in our swimming-shorts and were soon back in the sea again.
The water was warm, the sun shone every day, and on most days, there were no waves. In the middle
of the day a wind always began to blow, but it was not strong and did not make the sea rough.
Three times during our holidays we had strong winds. They blew the sand against our legs when we
ran down to the sea, and made big waves with white tops. We were all very good swimmers. We dived through
the waves or rode towards beach on top of them until we were tired and hungry.
30. What does the word ‘them’ in the last paragraph refer to?

A mobile phone (also known as a cellular phone, cell phone and a hand phone) is a device that can
make and receive telephone calls over a radio link while moving around a wide geographic area. It does so by
connecting to a cellular network provided by a mobile phone operator, allowing access to the public telephone
network. By contrast, a cordless telephone is used only within the short range of a single, private base station.
In addition to telephony, modern mobile phones also support a wide variety of other services such as
text messaging, MMS, email, internet access, short-range wireless communications (infrared, Bluetooth),
business applications, gaming and photography. Mobile phones that offer these and more general computing
capabilities are referred to as smartphones.
The first hand-held mobile phone was demonstrated by John F. Mitchell and Dr Martin Cooper of
Motorola in 1973, using a handset weighing around 2.2 pounds (1 kg). In 1983, the DynaTAC 8000x was the
first to be commercially available. From 1990 to 2011, worldwide mobile phone subscriptions grew from 12.4
million to over 6 billion, penetrating about 87% of the global population and reaching the bottom of the
economic pyramid.
