    During fiscal year 1965, the Defense Supply Agency changed its contract numbering system by dropping the date code and contract type code from the end of the number. Some early 1965 contracts still included this information. In fiscal year 1966, the system was changed again by adding a new class code after the DSA prefix for items like clothing and equipment. The date code and type code were no longer present on contracts from this period.

    FY1965 (01 July 1964 through 31 June 1965)

    During FY1965 the DSA "contract number" is changed. The date code and contract type code (the last three
    characters in the DSA "contract number" sequence) are dropped. Some early FY1965 contracts still bear the earlier
    DSA "contract number" with date code and contract type code in place.
