Problem I
Calculate the total dead load acting in pounds per square foot of floor
area. (Material densities are provided in your lecture).
Problem II
Given:
SDL=1.6kN/m2
LL=3.2kN/m2
Concrete specific weight is 25kN/m3
a- Sketch and calculate the loading that acts along the beam DF and
edge beam AM.
b- Sketch and calculate the loading that acts along the side girder
ABCDE.
Note: beam-girder and girder-column are treated as pinned connections

1-a. Determine the internal shear, axial load, and bending moment in the
beam at points C and D. Assume the support at B is a roller. Point C is located
just to the right of the 40-kN load.
1-b. Draw the shear and moment diagrams for the beam shown in figure.
2. Determine the internal shear, axial force, and bending moment in the beam
at points C and D. Assume the support at B is a roller. Point D is located just to the
right of the 50-kN load.
3. Determine the internal shear, axial load, and bending moment at point C,
which is just to the right of the roller at A, and point D, which is just to the left of the
15-kN concentrated force.
4-b. Draw the shear and moment diagram of the floor girder. Assume there is a
pin at A and a roller at B.

5-a. Determine the internal shear, axial load, and bending moment at point C.
Assume the support at A is a pin and B is a roller.
5-b. Draw the shear and moment diagrams of the beam in shown in figure.
6. Draw the shear and moment diagrams for the beam, and determine the shear
and moment throughout the beam as functions of x.

1- Draw the normal N.F.D, shear S.F.D and moment B.M.D for each
member of the frame. Assume pin support at A and roller at support
D.
2- Draw the normal, shear and moment diagrams for each member of the
frame. Assume fixed support at A, internal pin at joint B, and roller
support at C.
3- Draw the normal, shear and moment diagrams for each member of the
frame. Assume the frame is pin connected at A, C, and D, however
rigid joint at B.
Draw the influence lines for vertical reactions at supports B and D and the shear and
bending moment at point C of the beams shown in the following Figures. Determine
also in each beam, the maximum positive and negative shears and the maximum
positive and negative bending moments at point C due to a concentrated live load of
70kN, a uniformly distributed live load of 30kN/m, and a uniformly distributed dead
load of 30kN/m. Use in this problem both methods of analysis “equilibrium and
virtual work concept”
Problem II
Draw the influence lines for the vertical reactions at supports A and

E and the reaction moment at support E of the beams shown in the
following Figures. Determine also in each beam, the maximum
positive shear and bending moment at point B due to the shown
truck loadings.
