OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL PARISH
( Reflection )

Last September 19, 2019 me and some of my classmates have done the 3 hours
community service in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. To be honest, at first, I was not
excited to start my community service although I knew I had to do it. All I think is that I just
want to get over with it. To my surprise it was not what I expected. Community service was
not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience.

We arrived in the parish at 1:30 in the afternoon. There were already a lot of students
cleaning the parish. When we approached the facilitator or the person who will give us our
assign area to clean, she said “wala na biyay limpyohanan ari, adto na lang mo sa
sementeryo”. At first, I thought she was just joking around because I never expected that
there’s a cemetery inside the church, but she was serious and we were really assigned to
clean the cemetery. It was just a small room filled with gravestone. When we started
cleaning the small room cemetery, I was not really feeling comfortable because no matter
how I think of it, I am still cleaning in a room where dead people are buried. However,
thanks to those reads scholar who were also assigned in parish because they were really
checking us, asking us about how we’re doing. They were also there if ever we need
something and sometimes, they talked to us just to make us comfortable.

I never thought that I would really enjoy the activity. I was just thinking that “may
unta mahuman na ni” or three hours is just too long and I will just get bored. However, what
happened was the opposite, I enjoyed it and honestly while cleaning the room I did not
notice that three hours had already passed. Overall, I think it was a nice experience for me
and my classmates.
